My husband has not worked with Russian productions since the annexation of Crimea. He made one exception for the film “Van Goghi”, but the condition was that the film would not be shot in the Russian Federation, because the husband did not cross the border of the ruling country by Mr. Putin, so production was moved to Latvia.
Already in 2014, Olbrychski refused to play the main role in the play “Abduction of Europe”, whose patrons were the Polish embassy in Moscow and the Polish and Russian governments. He then wrote a letter to the director of the Polish Theater in the Russian capital, Eugeniusz Ławreńczuk. He justified that his decision was influenced, among others, by political movements of the president of Russia.
