– I would like to bow to the Ukrainians and Ukrainians brutally attacked by the Moscow regime – Olga Tokarczuk began her speech, as noted on Twitter by activist Jan Mencwel.

– And although there are no words for such barbarity, I want to express my, ours, solidarity, support and encourage them. For me, the attack on a free Ukraine is an attack on Europe. Martial law has no limits, once it is started, it will stay in our minds until we do everything to end it – said Tokarczuk later.

Partial mobilization of reservists in connection with the Russian invasion begins in Ukraine. President Volodymyr Zelensky announced it on Wednesday. The Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs also advised citizens to leave Russia immediately.

In connection with Russia’s aggressive actions, Western countries decided to impose sanctions on Russian institutions and representatives of the elite.

– The original and unique work of Olga Tokarczuk complements the scientific outlook on the world. We are proud that the Nobel Prize winner is a graduate of the University of Warsaw. Granting her the title of doctor honoris causa is a special moment for the community of our university – said prof. Alojzy Z. Nowak, Rector of the University of Warsaw, commenting on the award for the Nobel Prize winner.

The application for an honorary doctorate of the University of Warsaw was submitted by the Faculty of Polish Studies and the Faculty of “Artes Liberales”. Prof. Andrzej Mencwel from the Faculty of Polish Studies. The achievements of Olga Tokarczuk were reviewed by: prof. Schamma Schahadat from the University of Tübingen, prof. Ryszard Koziołek, rector of the University of Silesia and prof. Inga Iwasiów from the University of Szczecin. On December 16, 2020, the Senate of the University of Warsaw awarded Olga Tokarczuk with an honorary doctorate from the University of Warsaw by acclamation. Due to the pandemic, the organization of the ceremony was postponed to February 23, 2022.
