This afternoon the main theater of the Guayas Nucleus House of Culture (CCNG) again gathered an audience inside, which on this occasion was made up of artists, cultural managers, provincial directors of the other Houses, representatives of the Ministry of Culture, among others, who witnessed the Inauguration ceremony of the new directive of said institution.
“More than a new house, a new culture”, expressed a voice in the background before starting the solemn session; thus recalling the slogan that the winning list professed in their campaign.
This Monday the researcher Martha Rizzo Gonzalez was positioned as the new director of the CCNG. The act took place in the midst of various artistic interventions such as ballet, mariachi and singing by Marcia Casanova.
The first person to speak out with a speech was outgoing board member Johanna Meza. “This new period has begun with great hope…”said Meza, who addressed the new director to wish her success.
“This is what you cultivated… without a doubt we have chosen the most suitable person, that person could not be other than you (…) this place will become a palace of art”he added.
Elections of the Guayas Nucleus House of Culture began almost two hours late
The event was also attended by Fernando Ceronpresident of the National Headquarters of the House of Culture of Ecuador. “As is public knowledge, we have gone through complex moments regarding the electoral process of the CCNG, almost nine months after the scheduled date, an electoral process has been closed…”, the Ambateño began by saying.
He emphasized that culture is not secondary. “We understand that it is time for culture and art to have another place, to be able to generate other proposals, to be effectively linked to the development of this country, to generate working conditions, to develop cultural policies that allow, among other actions, to fight against violence,” declared the also sociologist.
He expressed that concrete actions are needed. “It is a complex challenge in a province like Guayas, it is a complex challenge in an institution that in recent months or years has suffered complex moments around the administrations it has had,” Held.
While seeing several of the provincial directors from the podium, he stressed the importance of working together and articulated. “For us this moment is important because it is a hinge moment”, he added.

The most anticipated moment came minutes after the event concluded. Omar Bohorquezsecretary in charge, read the act of possession, to declare Rizzo and his list as those in charge of the institution for the period 2022-2025.
The new director broke the protocols, took off her mask for a moment, walked away from the podium and walked to the center of the stage “to be closer to the artists.” With a smile, she confessed that she had forgotten the speech she wrote this morning, and decided to converse naturally before those present.
“I assume this position with great humility, but with a very firm determination to work. A commitment that I assumed from the first day when one of my students approached my house and told me ‘help us, you are the ideal person, to help us in this overwhelming crisis’”, he said in the first minutes of his speech.
‘I am a project of artists and managers who are going to commit their knowledge’
He pointed out that the only protagonists will be the artists, artisans and managers. “Today is a day of history, a day of hope when I see their faces, a day of renewal, and above all of reconciliation… the only one that has won in this is the cause of culture, art”, he continued.
Rizzo recalled that his management will go beyond the limits of the building as such. “We are going to get rid of the thought that culture is made in a building; culture are you, where you are there will be culture”, manifested.

He said that starting tomorrow he will meet with each of the delegates from the CCNG department to make a quick diagnosis with photos; and on Friday he will meet with the board to present the results of this audit. He noted that this meeting will be streamed via Facebook. “This diagnosis is going to help us a lot to know what the situation is in the house, then all the information will be uploaded on a web page (…)”, explained and indicated that this process will force the institution to be closed for two days; because its purpose is to build the Provincial Culture Plan.
“We are going to sow institutional credibility, we have a lot to heal, a lot to rebuild, a lot to manage”, said.
He assured that “it will be inclusive and participatory governance”, and said he was aware that it would be a challenging period.
The directive that will accompany Rizzo is: Christian Cabreraas the first vowel; Silvia Duran Vera, as a second vowel; Jose Villacres Vinueza, as first alternate vowel; and Yanina Murga, as a substitute second vowel. (I)
