This Saturday, February 19, the teacher died Alvaro Manzanodirector emeritus of the National Symphony Orchestra of Ecuador (OSNE).
“The artistic and administrative staff of OSNE shows their deep condolences to their relatives and close friends of Mtro. Apple tree. Our hearts are dismayed at such an irreparable human and artistic loss, ”says the OSNE in a statement.
“The country has lost a benchmark not only in the musical field, but also as a tireless fighter for excellence. Our duty is to carry his impeccable legacy and work for art and culture as hard as he taught us, ”he adds.
The Ambateño, who was 66 years old, retired from the direction of the OSNE in March 2021, a position he assumed in July 2013 for the third time.
The cause of his death was due to complications derived from various illnesses that he had been suffering from.
OSNE and Casa De La Música will pay tribute to Manzano, on Wednesday, February 23, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., in the main room of Casa de la Música, located at Balderrama and Mariana de Jesús . It will also be broadcast live through OSNE’s social networks.
President William Lasso Through his Twitter account he lamented the artist’s departure. “The death of the teacher Álvaro Manzano is a great loss for the country. His was a life devoted to music and culture. Our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones. Peace be upon him,” he wrote.

Among the awards received by Manzano is the Eugenio Espejo Award, in the Art category (Ecuador, 2020) and abroad the World’s Outstanding Young Award (Helsinki, 1991).

Trajectory
Manzano, with more than 38 years of artistic career, received a master’s degree in Fine Arts, specializing in symphonic orchestra and opera conducting, a title he obtained with honors at the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory, where he studied with Gennadi Rozhdestvensky.
He was also principal conductor, for six years, of the National Symphony of the Dominican Republic (2001 to 2004 and 2007 to 2009). He served as musical director of the Sucre National Theater in Quito. He collaborated with the National Conservatory and is Dean of the ‘Franz Liszt’ Conservatory of Quito.
He conducted symphony and/or opera orchestras in Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Chile, Ecuador, El Salvador, United States, Estonia, Guatemala, Honduras, Iceland, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru, Dominican Republic, Russia and Venezuela.
He was a teacher at the National Conservatory of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. He stood out as a pedagogue and lecturer. (I)
