The privacy of users and their personal data is one of the biggest concerns surrounding Meta, the company that owns Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger.
Mark Zuckerberg, the founder of Meta, advises users of his messaging applications not to take screenshots of their conversations, in a attempt to safeguard your privacy and that of your contacts.
Instant messaging applications have even stricter security features that can be used by users. For example, in some applications messages automatically disappear after they have been sent.
Mark Zuckerberg wants to implement notifications to alert users if the privacy of these messages has been violated.
This not only applies to text messages, but also to photos sent in end-to-end encrypted chats.
Meta will pay 90 million dollars to a group of users for having violated their privacy
However, in Europe, Mark Zuckerberg faces legal conflicts over the personal data of European users. Meta’s CEO has threatened the French government to close his services if he is not allowed to transfer the data to his headquarters in the United States.
“And? Our only compass, the one that guides the action of the Government, the action of the European bodies, is to ensure respect for the democratic collective decisions of European citizens”, said the Secretary of State for the Digital Transition and Electronic Communications, Cédric O, in the conference ‘Building European digital sovereignty’.
Meta also spoke about Europe’s position: “If we are not allowed to transfer data between countries and regions in which we operate, or if we are restricted from sharing data between our products and services, the ability to provide our services could be affected.”
The company’s main source of income is advertising and personalized ads thanks to the personal data of its users. (I)
