According to EFE sources from RTVE, The intention is that the Colombian city of Cartagena de Indias will host the first edition, for whose design a work team has been set up that will have to define the format of the contest and gather information on the countries that are willing to participate.

This will be a festival for Spanish-speaking countries, although there will be a direct invitation to Portugal and Brazil, according to these sources.

At the press conference, Pérez Tornero explained that the intention is for the festival to be quite similar to Eurovision, in which mainly European countries participate.

According to a 2021 report from the Cervantes Institute, a public entity created in Spain to spread Spanish around the world, there are 493 million native Spanish speakers and 591 million potential users, in addition to 24 million students.

Ibero-America already had a similar song festival in the past, that of the OTI, whose original name was the Ibero-American Song Grand Prix, which had 28 editions between 1972 and 2000. (AND)
