Robert Pattinson is in full promotion of one of the most anticipated films of the year, “The Batman”, his debut in the role of the superhero, which he assures is not the typical “playboy” and that he will deal with more traumas around him.
“He is not the typical playboy character. And he is somewhat lazy because, basically, he has a lot of trauma to deal with, at least as far as I can tell,” the actor advanced during a press conference attended by Efe, held in the Warner Bros. studios in Los Angeles (USA).
“The Batman”, the new film about the masked hero, will be released in theaters around the world on March 4.
The tape does not show his origins, but it reflects a Bruce Wayne (Batman’s real identity) in his thirties and in his beginnings as a superhero who still makes mistakes, mistrusts his abilities and is beginning to understand his role as protector of the city of Gotham.
“There are residues of his trauma, he has practically mastered it and has already become Batman, but he still has scars from the death of his parents,” said the interpreter after the first press screening of the blockbuster, called to start a new stage in the DC Comics universe.
Pattinson, who takes over from Ben Affleck and Christian Bale by putting himself in the shoes of the superhero, acknowledged that it was difficult for him to find the voice of the character.
“The first three or four weeks I would shoot the scenes with different voices until it began to settle,” he recalled.
The actor, famous for the saga “Twilight” (“Twilight”), added that during filming he had daily rehearsals of more than six hours to prepare the action scenes, some with co-stars such as Zoë Kravitz (Catwoman), Paul Dano (Riddler), Colin Farrell and Andy Serkis.
For his part, Matt Reeves, director of the film, praised Pattinson: “He has great stage control of himself and his performance.”
The filmmaker and the actor have given a detective air to the film, inspired by classics such as “Chinatown” (1974) or “Taxi Driver” (1976) and whose soundtrack highlights the Nirvana classic “Something in the Way”.
“I wanted to do a Batman story as a superhero who is in his early days,” the director said before explaining that he approached the character of Bruce Wayne “as if he were a member of the Kennedys.”
With a budget of more than 100 million dollars, Warner Bros. has relied on Reeves’ vision to relaunch the DC Comics franchise after the so-so results of recent installments of “Justice League,” “The Suicide Squad” and ” Birds of Prey”.
The director did not rule out the possibility of shooting more sequels or television series derived from the tape.
“We are trying to launch this universe and if the world embraces it… we have many possibilities open,” he promised. (AND)
