Patryk Vega’s films may or may not be liked, but one thing cannot be denied him: he is an extremely prolific filmmaker. A few years ago, he revealed that he had plans for the next 16 films, which he has been consistently making since then. From 2018, it has the habit of releasing four productions a year, this year it will be no different. It’s only February, and the premiere of the painting “Love, Sex and Pandemic” has already taken place, the next two projects – “Find You” and “Invisible War” – have already been announced.
Vega promises: I made my last movie in November
evidently he had to recognize that he had achieved everything he could in the Polish backyard and that he is now planning to conquer foreign film markets. He recently revealed to “Super Express”: “I have come to the point where I want to go out into the world, and for this to be possible, I have to carry out English-language projects with European and Hollywood actors. I’m getting ready for such a film.” He must be admitted that he is a consistent man, because in an interview with Kultura.gazeta.pl in 2020 he said exactly this:
I am constantly looking for new areas, but what I am aiming at and what I will start implementing from 2022 will be English-language productions intended for the global market. I would like to reach an international audience with my stories as well. (…)
I have three English-language productions planned, which I am doing at the moment, and I think these are strong international themes. I feel that they are hanging in the so-called collective subconscious, and thanks to this, we already have people who are potentially interested in this film at the starting point.
Before this memorable moment comes, the director first wants to symbolically say goodbye to a certain stage in his life. To “Super Express” he revealed:
I made my last movie in November, my autobiography. It will be in cinemas in September. It is not a monument to me or a glorification. (…) I felt that I wanted to close a chapter in my life with such a story.
He specified that the production was to cover the events of 40 years of his life and would be a feature film. Vega himself, however, did not play in it, because he did not want to confuse the audience. What to expect? Well, the fact that we will see “many difficult” things for a filmmaker that “expose” him and “show his mistakes”. Moving on, it is supposed to be a film “about the struggle between darkness and light in my life. It shows the mechanism of man’s struggle with darkness. It is a story about rising from falls”. Few directors decide to make their own biographical films on their own, Patryk Vega probably likes to be an exception.
Let us recall, however, that although his films attract a large audience to cinemas, the viewership of his subsequent productions has been declining in recent years. The more scandals and brutal real-life stories a director promises, the more the viewers become immune to his cinematic sensations. Tomasz Oświeciński, an actor, personal trainer and MMA fighter in one person, has also recently resigned from cooperation with the director. – I have finished my adventure with Patrick. Thank you, Patryk, that I came into being and I live from this. I play in the theater. But this stage is over. I would like to develop. I hope to play with Mr. Smarzowski or Agnieszka Holland in the future. This is my dream. Patrick makes similar movies. They are all more or less similar to each other. I would like to do something more, something else – he explained his decision.
