Alec Baldwin accidentally killed his cinematographer while trying to draw the pistol

The actor Alec Baldwin was practicing drawing the gun when he accidentally fired the bullet that killed Halyna Hutchins, the cinematographer of ‘Rust’, the movie he was shooting.

This is clear from the record of declarations signed by a judge in Santa Fe (New Mexico), where testimonies are collected from some of the production workers. They claim that the assistant director who should have reviewed the weapon in question did not, did not check if he had ammunition or not.

“That fucking assistant director yelled at me at lunch asking about the searches. This son of a bitch yelled at me. He was in charge of checking the weapons, he is responsible,” explains a script supervisor in the call they made to Emergencies minutes after the fatal shot.

The wizard in question, Dave Halls, was in charge of supervising the props. According to the statements, it was he who picked up the gun from a cart and called it “cold gun”, that is, pistol without ammunition. Witnesses point out that, in reality, he did not verify that the pistol was actually empty.

According to the director of the film, Joel Souza, Baldwin was in a church part of the set of the shoot practicing how to draw the weapon. Right in front was Hutchins and, behind her, Souza himself. Baldwin accidentally fired and the bullet struck Hutchins in the chest and grazed the director’s shoulder.

According to testimonies from the staff, it was not the first time that something like this had happened, although without fatal consequences. Five days before, Baldwin’s doppelganger accidentally shot in three takes. In addition, the accusations against Halls are piling up: the dancer has revealed various negligence that she would have committed in another shoot in 2019, where she did not comply with the security protocols of the pyrotechnic specialists or on the set, where she would have obstructed the fire exits.

At the moment, there is no one formally accused.
