The series “Who is Anna?” is the story of an ambitious journalist investigating the case of Anna Delvey (played by Julia Garner) – claiming to be the heiress of the huge German fortune, Queen of Instagram, who stole not only hearts but also wallets from wealthy New Yorkers. “Who is Anna?” Captivating story now as a Netflix series

The script for the series “Who is Anna?” is based on the article “How Anna Delvey Tricked New York’s Party People” by Jessica Pressler, which was published by New York magazine in 2018. Pressler investigated the case of Anna Sorokin, who lived in New York from 2013 to 2017 and lived undercover as a wealthy German heiress.

She started using the surname “Delvey” when she moved to Paris where she worked as an intern at the fashion magazine “Purple”. A business trip to the New York Fashion Week turned out to be the beginning of her several-year stay in the United States. Sorokin had the idea of ​​starting an art club and foundation, which she introduced to several prominent businessmen. As she failed to convince investors, she chose other ways to raise funds.

Sorokin presented the banks with forged documents on the basis of which she would be able to take out a loan of $ 22 million. However, when City National Bank employees became aware of the inaccuracy in the woman’s data and decided to contact the Swiss bank where Delvey allegedly deposited 60 million euros, the woman quickly canceled the loan application to avoid major problems. Later, she cheated on a few more hotels, restaurants, an airline company and friends, including she took on a “paid” trip to Morocco (after all, her companions had to pay for the stay themselves).

In December 2018, Anna Sorokin was brought before a New York City court. During the trial that lasted several months, the accused could, for example, refuse to come to the trial because she did not want to appear in prison clothes and her everyday clothes were not ironed. The line of defense consisted, inter alia, of on describing Sorokin as an “entrepreneur” and standing up for her “agility”. Ultimately, the woman was sentenced to imprisonment, which she was serving until February 2021. At the moment, he is waiting for deportation to Germany.
