On Fridays, on Gazeta.pl, we provide you with albums that are worth paying attention to, if only to form your own opinion about them. The descriptions below have been prepared on the basis of the publishers’ materials.
Eddie Vedder – “Earthling”
“Earthling” is Eddie Vedder’s first solo album in over a decade, exactly since his 2011 “Ukulele Songs”. Along with the album’s premiere, the latest single was released – full of raw energy, cinematic synthesizers and fabulous harmonies “Invincible”. The publisher previously promoted “Long Way”, “The Haves” and “Brother the Cloud”. The idea for a solo album came up when Eddie participated in an event organized by Global Citizen. There he found the producer, Andrew Watt, known for his cooperation with Justin Bieber and Miley Cyrus. The Grammy winner finally turned to the sound of “Earthling”. Although the album is signed with the name of Vedder, the singer invited quite an impressive group of musicians to cooperate: Watt, Chad Smith (drums) and Josh Klinghoffer (guitar, keyboards, backing vocals) known from the Red Hot Chili Peppers, as well as Elton John, Ringo Starr and Stevie Wonder .
Black Country, New Road – “Ants From Up There”
Black Country, New Road quickly became the favorites of critics and listeners. British band that extends rock with a whole lot of sonic influences, on the album “For the First Time” combined klezmer music, post-rock, indie and emotional melorecitation. On “Ants From Up There” the musicians expanded their unique mixture to reach the golden mean where classic minimalism, indie-folk, pop, alt rock and a clear tone that is unique to this band meet.
Recorded all summer at Chale Abbey Studios on the Isle Of Wight, the album harbors a deep-seated belief that the end result is exactly as it is meant to be. The group’s future is uncertain, because just before the premiere of “Ants From Up There”, frontman Isaac Wood announced his departure from Black Country. However, it seems that the history of this band will not end with the second album. “We were excited all the time,” says Tyler Hyde. – It was such a great pleasure. I accepted that it might be the best thing I will be a part of for the rest of my life. And that’s okay.
alt-J – “The Dream”
“The Dream” is an album full of intrigue, beauty and humanity – a combination of everything that brought alt-J global recognition. True crime-inspired stories and tales about Hollywood and Chateau Marmont go hand in hand with some of the band’s most personal moments. “The Dream” was created when the gentlemen gathered their strength after the world tour promoting the previous album “Relaxer”. This is an album that proves that alt-J is constantly evolving as songwriters and story writers.
Rose – “Bu!”
Róża is a trio consisting of Małgorzata Penkalla, Szymon Lechowicz and Kamil Hordyniec. The creators are known from the Enchanted Hunters, Sorja Morja and Wilga groups, they live and work in Warsaw. Their first album is called “Bu!”. “The title» Bu! «Is the cry of someone who pops out of nowhere – a bit offensive, a bit infantile, suited to our debut situation. It is also our attempt to defend ourselves against omnipresent violence by taking on the intimidation gesture and making it something familiar and funny” – says a member of the team Szymon Lechowicz.
The album includes eight original compositions, combining the sound of American indie rock, British post-punk, synth pop and alternative r’n’b. Róża’s Polish-language texts intertwine romantic themes with social themes. The album is promoted by the singles “Eyes” and “Man-dog” with music videos directed by Jakub Dylewski, as well as “Promise” and “I’m not myself with you”.
Trupa Trupa – “B FLAT A”
The Gdańsk quartet, which has been successful abroad for years, created its (so far) most epic and instinctive work on the album “B Flat A”. A universe where the echoes of Can, Syd Barrett and Fugazi collide. Clash magazine wrote: “The Polish rock band Trupa Trupa is back with an impressive question. The band’s massive physicality is matched with some really great artistry – imagine a sort of Eastern European response to Swans and you’ll be close. With intense live performances and raw studio production of Trupa Trupa she has created an impressive work “.
Mary J. Blige – “Good Morning Gorgeous”
The queen of hip-hop-soul returns to the salons. Blige’s fifteenth studio album is the result of positive affirmations that she began to practice in the most difficult moments for herself. – During the filming of “Mudbound” and when I got married, I felt very depressed. I had to pay myself compliments, even if I didn’t believe them, just to build myself up somehow – said the singer in a recent interview with “Elle”. – I used to do it in the morning because then you don’t have any hairstyle or makeup done. You have to look at yourself as you are – adds Blige.
Revived after a painful divorce, the artist proves that female power is real. On the album “Good Morning Gorgeous” appeared such guests as Anderson .Paak, Dave East, Fivio Foreign and Usher.
