The Russian art gallery of the Presidential Boris Yeltsin Center, in a statement published on its profile on social media, cites the results of the investigation conducted since the destruction of Anna Leporska’s painting. According to its content, the culprit of the devastation of the work of art is “an employee of a private organization carrying out security activities” on the site.
As the organizer of the exhibition Anna Reshetkina wrote in a post on Instagram, the security guard is about 60 years old and committed a crime on his first day of work.

The act of vandalism took place on December 7, 2021, during the inauguration of the exhibition at the Presidential Center of Boris Yeltsin in Yekaterinburg. As a result, Anna Leporska’s painting “Trzy Figury” (1932-1934) from the collection of the State Tretyakov Gallery was damaged.
The vandal – unknown at the time – drew eyes in two of the three figures. As it was established during the investigation, he used a ballpoint pen for this purpose. The damage was examined the next day by a conservator from the State Tretyakov Gallery. The work was then sent to Moscow.
The painting is currently being restored. The damage, according to the expert’s estimate, will be repaired without any damage to the work of art.
Following the incident, the art gallery announced the installation of protective screens to prevent damage to other artworks.
