This is the current life of Elvis Crespo, with tropical rhythms as the basis of his music

Puerto Rican singer and songwriter Elvis Crespobest known for his songs “Suavemente” and “Píntame”, continues to innovate in the world of music with his new album “Multitudes”, released last November.

In an interview with El País, Crespo says that the tropical genre is still alive even among the new generations, but that it needs a “movement” to promote it among young people. His single “Lluvia y Samba” has his essence: a mix of tropical and dance music with good lyrics.

“Lluvia y Samba” was the product of a collaboration with Gilberto Santa Rosa and Álex Bueno, resulting in a song with Brazilian and electronic sounds. According to Crespo, what distinguishes him from other musicians is his voice “so unique, so powerful and strong” and he jokes that he is a “banana tree voice”.

Although Elvis Crespo does not consider himself “the best of singers”, he affirms that he has what it takes to be successful: to be “unique”. “I am a singer-songwriter. In that sense, I counteract perhaps not being an extraordinary interpreter”.

The 50-year-old musician is proud that his songs continue to make a name for themselves in the music industry. “Songs are the melodies that stick with people and, in that sense, I have been blessed as a composer to create melodies that are universal, that can transcend from generation to generation,” he says.

His album “Multitudes” is number 15 in his repertoire and includes collaborations with RKM & Ken-Y, Manny Manuel, Limi-T 21 and José Alberto “El Canario”, among others.

Remember that her merengue has been danced by the British Dua Lipa or the veteran American actor Anthony Hopkins, who recently made some of Crespo’s songs viral.

“As a songwriter I take more risks on this album. Also, I feel more mature and content because of all the literature I read. I also took advantage of all the moments lived to express them in this work. But, more importantly, I have my great muse, who on many occasions is my wife”, says Elvis Crespo.

“At the end of the day I came to this world to be happy and it makes me very happy to make tropical music, I feel it, because it’s what makes me nostalgic,” says the singer. (AND)
