On February 9, an information campaign was launched on TVN7, related to the prolonged re-license process of the channel. In the spot, the faces of the station include remind that the largest entertainment channel in Poland may end its broadcasting soon.
TV Republika will try to replace TVN7? “We will analyze different scenarios”
A dozen or so days remain until the expiry of the current license, and the National Broadcasting Council has not yet made a decision to grant a license for another period, despite the broadcaster meeting all the conditions. The spot will be broadcast on all channels of TVN Grupa Discovery, and the broadcaster encourages people to express their solidarity with the channel by asking the National Broadcasting Council for an immediate grant of a license.
– By broadcasting the spot, we want to make our viewers aware that their favorite programs, series and characters may soon disappear from the screen. So we ask them for their support. They can really help by appealing to the National Broadcasting Council to grant us a license for the next period – says Katarzyna Mazurkiewicz, TVN7 program director.
In addition to the clips, the so-called scrolls, i.e. information bars next to selected broadcasts of the broadcaster. A counter measuring the days remaining until the license expires will be placed next to the channel logotype.
If the National Broadcasting Council does not extend the license for TVN7, the channel will remain broadcast via satellite under the Holendary license it has recently applied for. However, it will disappear from the MUX-2 terrestrial multiplex, which covers almost the entire territory of Poland. KRRiTV will then be able to organize a competition for this place. Will TV Republika appear in it? – We will analyze various scenarios – in an interview with Wirtualne Media, Radosław Dobrzyński, member of TV Republika. Also the owner of MWE, Michał Winnicki, to which belongs, inter alia, Antenna HD, unequivocally does not want to comment on whether he will apply for a place on the MUX-2, but says: However, I believe that Polish regulations should apply to everyone equally. Personally, as a broadcaster, I am concerned about the upcoming Warner Media and Discovery alliance.
The application to the National Broadcasting Council to extend the license for TVN7 for the next 10 years was submitted by TVN Discovery Group on December 23, 2020. So far, there has been no case in which the National Broadcasting Council has not extended an existing terrestrial license despite the broadcaster meeting all the conditions.
