Libraries transform lives, says Claudia Bugueño, from BiblioRecreo

This Sunday is the International Day of Libraries.

Claudia Bugueño, librarian and coordinator of BiblioRecreo, from Quito, ensures that from the most everyday things you can begin to build a better quality of life for everyone. She says it very convinced because from her job she has witnessed how books and libraries have connected with people, to the point of contributing to a transformation.

“Given last year everything we lived through and being able to return to these library spaces has shown us, has driven us, that These small spaces can positively influence people’s lives and that is why readers return to them, because they consider it a safe space, spaces where they can be and feel at ease, where they can somehow visualize a life a little less complex despite everything we have experienced ”, Bugueño expresses, regarding the International Libraries Day, which is celebrated this Sunday, October 24.

“We have witnessed how many of our users and users have grown as they have visited the library. We have seen these changes, we are direct witnesses of the transformations that they have undergone and how they have allowed us to be part of those life processes ”, Add.

That is why Bugueño defends the slogan that libraries must continue to be cared for, conserved and opened. “Libraries in many moments of crisis are relegated or abandoned. It is always important that as citizens or the media we collect the memories and the symbolic and practical importance of libraries ”, emphasizes.

Well, in addition to the emotional and intellectual expansion that these book temples allow, they are also memory. “When we talk about libraries, we talk not only about our ability to conserve, to care, but also about our ability to learn about how we are in the present, how we maintain these spaces, because that gives us the possibility of projecting a possible future ”, aim.

In other words, libraries must give answers to certain emotions, to certain perspectives of what one has of life.. “They are not limited only to lending books, libraries are also talking about this social construction and also giving readers the possibility of other ways of living.”

And for this, the librarian advises that these spaces go hand in hand with reading plans, cultural management plans and inter-institutional plans that help to weave networks with other ways of doing culture.
