Oscars 2022 – list of nominees

The text is updated

As usual, the day before the announcement of the Oscar nominations, we got to know the titles of the films and the names of the people nominated for the Golden Raspberries. This year’s Netflix biographical musical about Princess Diana has the best chance of winning an award, but what will it be like with the awards from American Film Academy members?

Oscars nominations. Polish film will compete for the statuette!

Let’s start with a Polish accent! The painting “Dress” by Tadeusz Łysiak fights for an Oscar in the short film category. It tells the story of Julia, who works in a roadside motel, whose life changes when she meets a handsome truck driver. Desires long hidden by a woman make themselves felt. But it’s not just the story of a woman meeting a man. Julia is physically different from the surrounding society, she is short, which is why she has experienced many unpleasantries in her life. Contrary to appearances, it is a universal story about longing, regardless of the barriers and differences that separate us.

The main roles were played by: Anna Dzieduszycka, Dorota Pomykała, Szymon Piotr Warszawski, as well as Andrzej Glazer and Lea Oleksiak. Tadeusz Łysiak is not only the director of the film, but also the author of the script. Mariusz Gos is responsible for editing, Jan Ignacy Królikowski for the music, and Konrad Bloch is the author of the pictures – summarizes the Polish Film Institute on his website. The film, co-financed by the Polish Film Institute, previously won the Best Narrative Short Award at the Atlanta Film Festival – it is one of the largest and oldest film festivals in the United States.

Oscars 2022. Nominations without surprises and new records

This year, the titles and names of the nominees were announced by actors Leslie Jordan and Tracee Ellis Ross. They were helped in this by, among others medics and firefighters, which is a nice tribute to the most committed to the defense of public safety and health in the US and beyond. But it was from them that we learned that The greatest number of nominations, as many as 12, was won by “Dog’s Claws” written and directed by Jane Campion.

The director wrote the screenplay based on the novel of the same name, published in 1967. The film is starring Benedict Cumberbatch, Kirsten Dunst, Jesse Plemons and Kodi Smit-McPhee. The plot goes like this: “The charismatic ranch owner Phil Burbank is not a pleasant man. When his brother brings home his newly wed wife and her son, Phil starts to abuse them. But soon he begins to understand what love is.”

Jane Campion thus made history as the first woman to be nominated for a director more than once. She already won an Oscar in 1993 for the famous “Piano”.

Steven Spielberg also broke his new record this year – as a producer of “West Side Story”, which won seven nominations this year, the famous filmmaker can pride himself on producing 11 films nominated for “Best Picture”. This is not only his personal record – in the entire history of this plebiscite, no one has achieved anything similar.

Another record holder of the 94th edition of the Oscars is Denzel Washington, who, thanks to the nomination for the main role in “The Tragedy of Macbeth”, officially became the black actor with the most nominations and awards. He won statuettes for the leading role in “The Day of the Trial” in 2001, and for the supporting role in “Glory” in 1989. He was also nominated in 1988, 1993, 2000, 2013, 2017 and 2018.
