Ecuadorian Carlos René wants to conquer New York with his tropical rhythms

Just as food, clothing and other typical elements are part of the Latin identity, music also has the power to unite all of us who were born in Central and South America, no matter where we are.

That has been proven by the singer Carlos René, a native of Cañara based in New Jersey, United States, since his adolescence and where he has developed his musical career with the great acceptance of the Latin community in the North American country.

“I went to the United States when I was 14 years old. I made my life there, I raised my family, but Ecuador is always on my mind,” highlights the singer-songwriter who was recently in the country broadcasting his most recent production, Contigo.

It is a romantic theme, a line that Carlos René has followed since he recorded his first professional album, in 2000, he recalls in an interview via Zoom. The rhythm of this song is a mix between reggaeton and urban, genres that the artist considers very current. He also produced a cumbia version of this melody, another sound that identifies his imprint, which also includes bachata.

“Contigo talks about falling in love, love at first sight where the other person is everything to you,” explains the interpreter. “It’s that love we had as teenagers, the true love of youth.” This work was produced and developed entirely in the United States.

With this release, Carlos René celebrates that last year he received recognition at the Premios Urbanos, a ceremony organized in New York by the Dominican producer and artistic entrepreneur Stanley Afortunado, whose resume includes work with Ozuna, Victor Manuel, Prince Royce, among others. At the gala, which was sponsored by Univision Channel 41 (New York, New Jersey and Connecticut), the artist with Ecuadorian roots received the Special Urban Award.
