CUENCA.- Héroes del Silencio is a Spanish rock band that has not stopped playing despite the fact that its last studio album was published in 1995. Its members took different musical paths, but they have not been able to detach themselves from this name and in their concerts his fans ask to revive these themes. That is why two of its original members, Pedro Andreu and Alan Boguslavsky, tour around the world performing the hits of that time. Cuenca’s turn will be next February 10.
From Costa Rica, Alan, the rhythm guitarist of Héroes del Silencio, talks with EL UNIVERSO about the meaning of one of the most revered groups in Ecuador and the reasons why it remains so relevant.
Alan joined the band as support for the album tour The Spirit of Wine in 1993 and stayed until the end. Twenty-six years after the farewell, he believes that the legacy they left is in each of the songs published, from the maxi single hero of legend in 1987 until Avalanche from 1995, of course, accompanied by hundreds of concerts around the world. And through the tribute concerts he has given, he has been shocked by the generational response from fans.
Last year on Netflix the documentary was published Heroes: silence and rock and roll, where the beginnings, the ascent and the tension before his farewell are exhibited. Although he participated in the filming, what captivated him most was discovering new things about a group in which he got on a high-speed train that, according to what he says, he did not have time to look back. He analyzed her as a fan rather than as a musician, and seeing creative processes and tours so accelerated, the feeling it generated in him was one of greater admiration for his peers. That is why he qualifies it as something “sincere, honest”.
One aspect that he remembers quite well was the intense work he had to do to learn the songs, being the live album trail 91 the one that attached to his ear to analyze how to adapt his six strings in a somewhat artisanal way to a band that was at its peak. “It’s not like now that it’s put on Google, but it was placing the album, writing the structure, the harmony and realizing that I had to make a rhythm guitar to support the drums and bass,” he says.
If you have to choose your favorite albums, do not hesitate to name spirit of wine Y Avalanche, does not go for a particular song because it is difficult to “choose a son”, but when he puts together the list of songs for concerts like the one in Cuenca, he opens himself to rediscover the chords and if possible give them a new twist, but keeping the essence.
Touring playing the hits of Héroes del Silencio is for him to give back to the public something of what he received as an artist. when the band was active and that he believes is due to the demand of the public that continues to attend, even if they are not complete.
For all these feelings that they generate in him and in the fans of Heroes of Silence, he is sure that each concert is different and the one announced for the theater of the Casa de la Cultura will not be the exception. “The beautiful thing is that this will become a celebration that lasts a lifetime,” he concludes.
The Heroes of Silencio concert, organized by Thunder Shows, will start at 8:00 p.m. Tickets are available on the thundershows.com website and the meet2go.com platform. The prices are $15 general, $20 preference, $30 VIP and $50 box, which includes meeting Pedro Andreu and Alan Boguslavsky. (I)
