He fell in love, spoiled and cheated. Netflix’s new documentary, Tinder Cheater, is awesome

Left, right, left … It’s not easy to find love on the Internet, so when Cecilie dates a handsome and fabulously wealthy playboy, it’s hard to believe that she has just met the man of her dreams. However, he does not listen to the voice of reason and realizes much too late that this businessman doing international business is something completely different. Then the fairy tale turns into a thriller driven by a vengeance. Cecilie finds other women who have suffered a similar fate and, together with them, decides to deal with “The Tinder Cheater”.

“The Tinder Cheater.” He was supposed to be the son of the “king of diamonds”, he turned out to be a liar

“Variety” reports that on February 2, that is on the day of the premiere of the document “The Tinder Cheater”, Shimon Hayut’s profile could be found in the application. On Tinder, the man claimed to be Simon Leviev, the son of Israeli businessman Lev Leviev, who is known as the “king of diamonds”. “We have conducted an internal investigation and can confirm that Simon Leviev is no longer active on Tinder under any of his known nicknames,” the app said in a statement released to “Variety”.

Hayut served five months (out of the 15 he was sentenced to) in an Israeli prison in 2019. He is accused of persuading women to give him cash and credit cards under the pretext of a threat to his life. Three of his victims and reporters from the Norwegian newspaper “VG” who contributed to the prosecution of Hayut starred in a film directed by Felicity Morris. From Wednesday, “Cheat from Tinder” climbed to the top of Netflix’s TOP 10, incl. in the United States and Great Britain.

Soon Netflix in the documentary podcast “You Can’t Make This Up” will provide a miniseries, which will present the backstage of “The fraud (…)”. The podcast was produced by RAW, the same team that made the film, and is an in-depth analysis of Hayut’s life and methods. In each episode, we learn about more lies and people who intentionally – or unconsciously – helped him.

In the first episode, we get to know the people around Simon who accompany him wherever he appears. Who are these people? Are they involved in the scam? Or are they the victims of his lies as well as the women he cheats? More light is shed on the identities of Peter’s bodyguard and Avichay, the alleged “accomplice” and childhood friend. There is also the account of Jamal, who worked as Simon’s driver in London and who still feels guilty about what he got involved in three years later.

The second episode is devoted to trying to understand the fraud’s behavior. The film crew meets with a forensic psychologist specializing in the psychology of liars. The filmmakers then return to Finland, where Simon was convicted and served in 2015. Instead of learning from his mistakes, the man used them for further actions.

Before traveling around Europe pretending to be a playboy millionaire, Simon was Shimon, the son of an Orthodox rabbi from a small town near Tel Aviv. His father was a respected member of the community and served as Chief Rabbi of El Al Airlines for 15 years. The rabbi had numerous contacts in religious spheres all over the world. In the third and final episode, Felicity Morris talks to an Israeli police officer who has been following Simon since 2011, and tells about his earlier scams while he was still working as a babysitter. And then we meet Rabbi Badush of Brooklyn, whose shocking story suggests that perhaps an apple does not fall far from an apple tree.

The first two episodes of the podcast “You Can’t Make This Up” will be available February 9; the third will appear a week later.
