Main Offender was released in 1992, four years after Talk Is Cheap. The recording sessions were attended by members of the X-Pensive Winos group: Steve Jordan, a drummer and longtime associate of Richards, who recently played drums on the Rolling Stones tour; Waddy Wachtel, guitarist; Charley Drayton, bassist; Ivan Neville, keyboard player; Sara Dash, vocalist, and Bernard Fowler and Babbi Floyd, accompanying vocalists.
Keith Richards: One of the most interesting moments in music is when you’re not playing
Among the ten songs on the album “Main Offender”, we have the captivating singles: “Wicked As It Seems”, “Eileen” and “Hate It When You Leave”. Keith Richards himself as well as Waddy Wachtel and Steve Jordan were responsible for the production of the album. The bonus concert album was mixed and produced by Jordan. – This is the second time The Winos have stepped into action. If I could, I would keep this band together for as long as possible. This is one of the best groups that have existed – says Keith Richards and emphasizes that only at “Main Offender” the potential of the band begins to reveal itself.
I tried to avoid looking for some deeper meaning in these recordings. I find a hint of mystery and ambiguity to make you think – this is something far more powerful than just wagging your finger and saying “do this”, “don’t do this”. If you are a musician then silence is your canvas and you never want to fill it completely … And one of the most interesting moments in music is when you don’t play
– adds Keith Richards.
The new boxset edition of “Main Offender” includes a collector’s box, which is hand-numbered and reproduces the original issue in the form of a portrait. In the middle there are, among others a beautifully published cover book and an album embossed on a multicolored, smoky vinyl.
The “Main Offender” vinyl and CD releases have a new mastering under the watchful eye of their original producer and X-Pensive Winos member Steve Jordan. The additional album “Winos Live in London ’92” gives you the opportunity to travel back in time and listen to songs recorded live for the first time – they include the already mentioned “Eileen”, “Hate It When you Leave”, “Happy” and many others. A unique set can be ordered.
