Her physical beauty is indisputable. “I have no experience on television, returning to television is a return after the Miss Ecuador and Miss Supranational pageants. About a year ago I had met with Betty (Mata) because she was interested in my being part of the program with one of the segments, then many things happened that did not allow me to keep in touch, until she found out that I was director of a contest and there she calls me to enter the reality show and invited me to be a part. 2016 earthquake

This life experience has been a chapter that was kept reserved. The earthquake that shook Ecuador in April 2016 and that mainly affected the province of Manabí was a reality that she and her family experienced. While I was in Guayaquil with a friend, the earth shook. It was through the news that he discovered that the epicenter had occurred in his province and Pedernales was one of the most affected towns.

“We all have a story to tell and something that makes us strong. When the earthquake happened, it caught me in the shower, at a friend’s house, the first thing I reacted was to run away, I came out in a towel, I was just putting on my pants (…) around twelve the night I just found out about my family, my mom, we didn’t know about my brothers, it was terrible. My mother had to walk to El Carmen to find a shelter because a tsunami warning was coming,” recalls López, 28 years old.

Together with Jhon Álex Álava, a former Combate participant, they made a collection and group to bring donations and specialists to Manabí. “I was in charge of registering all the doctors, nurses, firefighters who wanted to go help and it was also the only way to get to Pedernales because there was no transportation. We filled about six dump trucks with donations, food and about six buses full of nurses, doctors, firefighters. We arrived around four to five in the morning. When we arrived, at the entrance to the city you could see all the collapsed buildings and we passed by my house and I saw everything collapsed, full of rubble, you could see my things all crushed, I was shocked, I knew my brothers were fine but it was shocking. The only thing that mattered to me was looking for my family,” says López.

“I had to spend those days with the clothes that were there, with the donations that I got and also delivered, I wore men’s clothes during that time, because we didn’t have any more. Where we lived were apartments, on the second floor, and we didn’t go back there. The land of the condominium was used for something else, a piece of land that my mother had, they invaded. We stayed at my sister-in-law’s grandparents’ house for a while because, as there were replicas, there was no place to rent, to go live, so we all slept on the sidewalks. So it was normal to see whole families sleeping on mats, and it was like that for about three weeks. After that time we went to a church shelter, there we organized ourselves to deliver donations because it was Miss Manabí”, she details.

After three months of living in the shelter, without a job, having received his university degree but without having a place of his own to live, he took charge of his destiny again. She contacted Denisse Klein, with whom she had taken a modeling course, explaining her situation and asking her to consider her for job offers. “Charlie Ponce, who is now my best friend, helped me with the photo shoot, I lent my mom for the ticket. He got me clothes, someone to do my makeup and do my hair. He does my photo shoot and I send them to Denisse. After about ten days, he calls me and tells me that he got me several events as a protocol model. With this proposal, and after asking my mom for permission, I am coming to live in Guayaquil to work,” she says.

In a small suite in Guayaquil, which he paid for with the help of his best friend, and with $80 that his mother gave him, he bought a black and white dress and nude shoes to wear at his events. “I arrived with a mat, an inflatable sofa, and a cardboard box full of cans of tuna that they had given us from the donations. I ate tuna and crackers every day. When I had to do my makeup, Charlie would help me look presentable. Little by little I was furnishing the apartment, modeling began to go very well for me and I put aside my career as an agricultural engineer. I sent everything I worked to my mother and brothers,” he maintains.

reigns

Her work as a model led her to become a candidate for Miss Ecuador. Her best friend convinced her to enroll in the 2017 edition and she was chosen among the group of finalists, obtaining the Miss Supranational Ecuador sash.

Currently, López is the director of the Top Model of the World pageant, whose representative is Nicole Zambrano Barreto. “After the reigns experience I always had the idea of being a mentor to other young women, I have always had a critical eye, I learned many things during my participation and I see that there are many girls who want to learn during their contest, but I want them to learn beforehand to represent the country”, he admits.

After acquiring the franchise of this reign, which CNB (National Beauty Contest) gave it to him, which has been running for 28 years in Panama, he made a casting virtual from which Zambrano was elected. The Ecuadorian who will travel to Egypt this year is from Machala. He is 22 years old, studies architecture and speaks English and French. The final of this contest will be given on March 11.
