“Krakow monsters”. Netflix has released the first pictures of a series based on Slavic mythology

“Krakowskie potwory” is an eight-episode Polish series based on Slavic mythology and the legends of Krakow, set in the capital of Lesser Poland. The main screenwriter is Magdalena Lankosz, who collaborated on the scripts with Anna Sieńska and Gaja Grzegorzewska. The directors of the series are Kasia Adamik and Olga Chajdas. The main character of “Krakow Monsters” is Alex – a first-year medical student at the prestigious Collegium Medicum in Krakow. Thanks to ambition and determination, she broke away from the village with one goal: to start over and prove that she belongs to the great world at all costs. Her fate changes when she is selected to an elite group of students gathered around the world-famous pathologist – Professor Zawadzki.

To his amazement, he discovers that, under the guise of scientific research, the group is doing something completely different. Alex becomes embroiled in a plot that confronts her with the world of Slavic beliefs, ancient monsters and bloodthirsty deities, announces Netflix. As the creators emphasize, the series is also “a universal story about a young woman who must define her identity and find what is her inner life force”.

The debuting young actress Barbara Liberek played the main role. On the screen, she is accompanied by Andrzej Chyra, who plays the role of Professor Zawadzki, Stanisław Linowski – Lucky and Małgorzata Bela as the guardian of the main character of Aitwar. Apart from them, the cast also includes: Mateusz Górski (Antoni), Kaja Chan (Hania), Maja Chan (Basia), Daniel Namiotko (Gigi), Staszek Cywka (Birdy), Anna Paliga (Iliana), Eryk Pratsko (Boy), Małgorzata Rożniatowska (Grandma Alex), Małgorzata Gorol (Jagna), Wojciech Brzeziński (Robert), Julia Wyszyńska (Ewa). In the series we will also see, among others Magdalena Kole¶nik, Nina Tarczyńska, Jakub Rędziak, Ewelina Żak and Magdalena Osińska.

The photos were taken by Ziv Berkovich, and the music was created by Antoni Komasa-Łazarkiewicz and Mary Komasa-Łazarkiewicz (let us remind you that the couple comes from exceptionally artistically talented families: Mary Komasa is the sister of director Jan Komasa, and her husband Antoni is the son of Magdalena and Piotr Łazarkiewicz. Both are directors and screenwriters, and Magdalena is Agnieszka Holland’s sister. Agnieszka Holland is Katarzyna Adamik’s mother). Katarzyna Lewińska took care of the costumes, Ewa Kowalewska created the make-up and Anna Anosowicz created the set design. Wanda and Marcin Kędzierzawscy took care of the special make-up, and the producer was Maciej Kubicki.
