The main character of “Behawioryst” disappointed both the readers and Mróz himself. The director had his reasons

“is a story about a difficult duel between a dangerous criminal Horst Zeiger (Krystian Pesta), who uses the Internet to murder people, and former prosecutor Gerard Edling (Robert Więckiewicz), a specialist in kinesics (the science of body language) trying to stop him, trying to stop him. Remigiusz Mróz was of course a bestseller, and its adaptation was done by Łukasz Palkowski. The director has such titles as the film “Gods” about Zbigniew Religa, the series “Belfer” or five seasons of the beloved “Chy³ka”. the new series, however, aroused a lot of controversy.

The main character of “Behavioryst” disappointed both the readers and the author. The director replies

Remigiusz Mróz did not hide in the interview that the changes in the structure of the main character of “Behawioryst” do not make him very happy, because his character has become someone completely different. But apart from that, the new Player Original production is definitely thrilled. As he explained:

The book by Gerard Edling is liked by several hundred thousand readers, despite the fact that he is a bit inaccessible, dry and from time to time he exalts himself. It is not easy to present such a character to the audience, because there is a risk that it will not arouse sympathy and will become repulsive. In the case of Chyłka, however, it was rendered quite faithfully and we all saw what the effect was. In Edling’s case, perhaps there was a lack of courage.

Łukasz Palkowski, responsible for the direction and script, addressed this controversial issue in an interview with Gazeta.pl. As she emphasizes, this procedure was intentional:

I really didn’t want to tell this character as it was written in the book. Because it is completely different in the book, which the fans of course accuse us of, but I take it on my chest, because I have a lot. I wanted it to be different: I can’t imagine a very old-fashioned character wearing a white suit, also much older than ours in the series. Somehow it didn’t work for me, so we decided to mix what’s in the book with someone who is a bit more modern.

– We knew that our dream is for Gerard Edling to be played by Robert Więckiewicz. It was an absolutely optimal solution, but also not entirely in line with Robert’s conditions. It seems to me that we have connected two worlds as a result – he emphasized during the conversation, which will soon be published on Kultura.gazeta.pl. The director also revealed that Robert Więckiewicz had a great influence on how the vision of the protagonist emerged, which viewers can now watch on the screen:

I don’t know how much I can say that this is a less comfortable role for Robert than the others, because that’s actually a question for Robert, how did he get on with it. Robert was so involved in it, including tormenting the scripts and so on, that I think it wasn’t that bad. He really put a lot of work into it and actually every sentence we exchanged on this subject influenced what we see on the screen. With which, I must admit, I am very pleased.

Palkowski also told more about how the cooperation with Remigiusz Mroz was going over the years. As it turns out, so far the writer has approached the changes he proposes with enthusiasm: – In cooperation with Remek, the beautiful thing is that no one is so interested in how we do it, as in his own. In fact, he probably has the most fun with how his ideas are processed. The farther it is from the book, the more he enjoys it. This is beautiful. It’s hard to find an author who approaches the work he wrote so freely. Remek has a lot of ease in this and is curious about how other people will look at it, that it is unusual and I have an impression – unique – said the director of “Behaviorist” Łukasz Palkowski in an interview with Gazeta.pl.
