Removing used oil from the pan after frying may seem like a straightforward thing, but many people are still unsure about it. Unfortunately, a large proportion of people are completely unaware that anything is doing something wrong and simply pour oil down the drain or toilet. Doing so can be fatal and cause a lot of damage. Fat does not dissolve in water and, poured into the sewage system, it cools down and settles on the walls of the pipes, creating blockages.
What to do with the used oil that is left after frying? Pouring it down the sink is a big mistake
People who fry frequently should know and use at least one of the following methods, which allows for quick and trouble-free removal of used fat. If there is little left in the pan, simply wipe the pan thoroughly with a paper towel and throw it into the mixed waste bin and then. On the other hand, if there is much more oil left, it can be stored in a bottle (e.g. after the previous oil), and when it is full, return it free of charge to PSZOK, i.e. the Municipal Waste Selective Collection Point, which can be found in every Polish municipality.
However, if someone has such possibilities, you can get rid of used oil by composting it, because it is biodegradable waste. However, it should not be simply poured onto the compost in large amounts every now and then, as this can contaminate the soil and groundwater. A much better option is to pour the oil into e.g. sawdust or let it soak into napkins or cartons, which can then be thrown on the compost.
