Marek Suski wants even more Polish music on Polish radio. What would his playlist look like?

Marek Suski from PiS is pushing for an amendment to the media law, which is to increase the share of Polish music played in radio stations. He wants 50 percent. During the month of broadcasting, Polish-language songs were broadcast. But it’s not that each station will be able to launch night programs with a corner of Polish popular music: 80 percent. Polish music is to be presented to the audience from 5 am to midnight. So far, the law requires that Polish music take up 33 percent. airtime, of which 60 percent. falls between 5 and 25.

Law and Justice MPs argue that the new provision is needed to help domestic artists recover from the losses caused by the coronavirus epidemic in the music industry. They emphasize that popular digital platforms promote much better people who create in the world’s more common languages ​​such as English and Spanish – the radio is therefore to become “a support and promotion mechanism for national performers of verbal and musical works”. Interestingly, in October 2020, Paweł Kukiz, as an MP, appealed to Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki and the National Broadcasting Council for more Polish music to be played in the public media. Kukiz supports Suski’s idea, but this solution is criticized by representatives of the radio industry. The fact that Joanna Lichocka, a colleague from the PiS party, MP Joanna Lichocka, is also critical of this concept – she believes that the current regulations are good enough.

Although now PiS politicians are fighting for the welfare of Polish musicians with Marek Suski’s hands, the story with the canceled 1998 listing of “Three Hits List”, which won the song “Your pain is better than mine” by Kazik Staszewski, shows that not all Polish songs in their feeling should be promoted. Whose music from Jarosław Kaczyński’s group do they like to listen to the most?

Marek Suski in an interview with Wirtualna Polska News revealed that he likes rock music very much, but mainly listens to hits from his youth. Among his favorite performers are Czesław Niemen and Krzysztof Klenczon (Led Zeppelin also mentioned, but we omit this band because it is not a Polish performer).

“Mata and hip-hop is not music that lies on me, although you can find some nice songs”, so you should probably not count on the fact that songs such as “Patointeligencja” or “Parrot” would be on his list of songs. In the same conversation, the deputy revealed that he likes to listen to the radio Two, which in his opinion is better than the Three, and to the weather radio station.

We can also assume that the works promoted by Marek Suski would include those from the repertoire of Piotr Konec and Wojciech Owczarek, who performed with him at the already famous press conference. Konca – pseudonym Świeżak – founded the Spotlight band, and also recorded with Magda Femme and Patrycja Markowska, belonged to the band The Trash with Radosław Majdan in the line-up. Since 2005, he has been performing in the Ira band together with drummer Wojciech Owczarek.

After looking at Marek Suski’s profile on Twitter, you can come to the conclusion that he would probably also be eager to play music created by the recently deceased Andrzej Nowak. “An outstanding musician and patriot. Andrzej Nowak died on January 4, 2022 and was one of the founders of the TSA band, as well as the founder of the rock group Złe Psy – he also recorded with Martyna Jakubowicz and Tadeusz Nalepa, he also appeared in 2013 on the album “Piersi i miłość 2” by the band Piersi. However, we are not sure whether the music of Paweł Kukiz would be included in Marek Suski’s playlist – although the gentlemen now agree on how much Polish music should be broadcast in the state media, it should also be remembered that in 2019 Paweł Kukiz in one of the interviews He maintained that Marek Suski belonged to the Committee on Secret Services and was using a Huawei phone, for which the PiS MP sued him and won.

Marek Suski was the head of the Political Cabinet of the Prime Minister at Mateusz Morawiecki for two years. In one of his speeches, the prime minister referred to the works of the Republika band and quoted the song “Republic of Dreams” – Thus, one can get the impression that the repertoire of this formation is well known to him and that he is probably listening to it with pleasure.

The prime minister is a man of many talents, he has a weakness for music, he does not limit himself to listening only and plays, among others, on guitar. During the 14th Congress of the Clubs of Gazeta Polska in Spała, he even managed to record his performance: then he also performed the piece “In the November forest”.

We should also remember that around 2017 Mateusz Morawiecki on the air of the Catholic Radio Warszawa short concert of Bieszczady songs. The latter connects him with President Andrzej Duda. In an interview for Telewizja Republika once said:

He revealed to “Super Express” that he liked such Polish bands as: Lady Pank, Maanam, Turbo, Perfect, Budka Suflera. Well, he was even at a Lombard concert. When he participated in # Hot16Challenge2 and recorded his famous “Sharp Shadow of the Fog” himself, he appointed two teams especially close to him and his wife to participate in the challenge: Breast i Golec uOrkiestra. Thanks to the official Facebook account, we also know that PAD is following Maleo Reggae Rockers and a project created by the leader of this formation, Dariusz Malejonek – “Cursed Virgins“This is an album with pieces inspired by the history of the cursed soldiers, performed by various Polish artists, including the Przybysz sisters, Marcelina and Ania Brahaczek.

Another “boy with a guitar”, i.e. Jacek Kurski, who is a die-hard admirer, does not hide his musical preferences. Jacek Kaczmarski or Andrzej Włat. Recordings of his performances can be easily found on the web. Plotek.pl also learned first-hand that the president of TVP is enthusiastic about creativity Zenon Martyniuk, with whom he even sang:

Before he took up television for good, however, Jacek Kurski conducted a music broadcast in Radio Białystok in 2013. This one was significantly called – “N” – during it he shared his favorite songs and sang the song “Syn ulica” by Stanisław Grzesiuk himself. Marek Suski, as chairman of the Polish Radio Program Council, should also be aware of what music the PiS president, Jarosław Kaczyński, likes the most. Still in the “Alphabet of the Kaczyński brothers” he himself emphasized: – I can listen to film music, I can Troubadours, and I can and Mozart. I know the individual pieces, but I am not an expert. (…) I am ashamed to admit that Suflera booth I started to recognize in 1997, when Cugowski supported AWS. I knew other musicians: Klenczon, Nalepa, Niemen. I hardly knew Polish rock.
