Janina Traczykna is dead. The actress passed away at the age of 91
Janina Traczykna was born on May 16, 1930 in Kłodawa. In 1953, she graduated from the PWST in Warsaw; then she also made her theatrical debut. In front of the camera, she appeared for the first time with Jerzy Kawalerowicz in the film “Pod Gwiazdą Phrygijską”. In the years 1953-55 she played at the Dramatic Theaters in Szczecin; then she joined the Warsaw Dramatic Theater for nearly four decades. She has performed at the Television Theater many times.
The viewers remembered her best from the screen, among others as a journalist Barbara Raczyk from the first Polish series “Barbara i Jan”, which appeared on the air in 1964. The most famous role in Traczykna’s career is, however, Michalina Ostrzeńska from “Nocy i dni”. In her films, the actress was eagerly cast by Stanisław Bareja – it is she who in “Teddy” utters one of the famous lines: “get them out of the village!”.
In later years, Janina Traczykna played episodes in series and films, incl. in “Pograniczu w ogniu”, “Tenants” or “39 i pół”. The year 2003 brought her a nomination for the Eagle in the category: best supporting female role for playing the mother of Adaś Miauczyński in Marek Koterski’s “The Day of the Wacko”; Traczyki returned to this character in the movie “We are all Christs”.
Traczykna also starred in the excellent film by Kazimierz Kutz, “People from the train”. The last time she appeared in the 2009 movie “The Last Action” by Michał Rogalski.
Since her studies at the theater school, she has been associated with the actor Witold Skaruch. The couple lived together for nearly 60 years. After her husband’s death in 2010, the 80-year-old actress moved permanently from Warsaw to her family home on the Pilica river.
