A wedding is a special day in the life of every couple, in which we are accompanied by a lot of emotions. The first look, the way to the altar, and finally an oath full of emotions. And it is the moment when the young people vow love and loyalty to each other is considered the most important and most solemn element of the ceremony, causing tears of emotion not only in the bride and groom but also in their parents.
A touching gesture of the bride for the deaf in-laws
The importance of the oath for parents was well aware of Kelsey Kulick, who made a special gesture especially for her parents-in-law. The parents of her beloved Michael and several other members of his family are deaf, so sign language interpreters were hired for the entire ceremony. But this is not the end – Kelsey decided to surprise the man’s relatives by pronouncing the oath in both spoken and sign language. As he explains, she wanted to do it “out of respect for Michael and his parents.”
Although we were accompanied by an interpreter during the ceremony, I wanted my oath to be spoken solely by me, not only in spoken words, but also through sign language, so that everyone could understand what I was saying
– Kelsey explained in an interview with southernliving.com.
Kelsey and Michael have been a couple since 2018. During this time, the woman has mastered some basic phrases for communicating with her partner’s family, but fluent sign-language communication is still a problem for her. So she was helped by aunt Michaela, who is the wife of his deaf uncle and at the same time was the only person who knew about the surprise prepared by Kelsey.
The video documenting the moment Kelsey took the oath went online, quickly becoming a viral, moving Internet users from all over the world.
