At the beginning, it is worth emphasizing that there is no such holiday as Grandma’s Day and Grandpa’s Day – they are two separate days. because they appear side by side in the calendar. The first holiday is Grandma’s Day on January 21, and the second is Grandpa’s Day, on January 22. In kindergartens, schools and many homes, the Grandmother’s Day and Grandfather’s Day celebrations take place on the same day. That is why this name can often be read as a combination, i.e. Grandma and Grandpa’s Day as above.

Pope John Paul II himself postulated to establish a joint Grandmother’s and Grandfather’s Day. He wanted the newly created holiday to fall on July 26. It is the name day of Anna and Joachim, the parents of Our Lady of Mary. It did not take place for one reason. If the holiday changed the date and took place during the summer holidays, schools and kindergartens would not be able to organize performances and other attractions performed by children. The tradition of celebrating this day is so entrenched that they did not want to deprive it of future generations.

Wishes for grandma have been made since the 1960s

In Poland, Grandma’s Day began to be celebrated in the 1960s. Relatively not so long ago. Exactly in 1966, he announced January 21 as Grandma’s Day. It was in memory of the cake presented to actress Mieczysław Ćwiklińska a year earlier. That day, she celebrated her 85th birthday, and the cake was presented to her after the performance in which she was playing her grandmother.

Much later in our country the grandfather’s day was thought of. It took place in the seventies of the twentieth century. Some assumptions indicate that we did not want to be inferior to other countries that worshiped both grandmothers and grandparents. That is why we set our Grandfather’s Day day after Grandma’s Day.
