Microsoft announced on Tuesday the acquisition by $68.7 billion from Activision Blizzard, one of the biggest video game companies of the world and responsible for well-known titles like “Warcraft”, “Call of Duty” or “Candy Crush”.
In a statement, the tech giant said the purchase will make it the third largest company in the video game sector behind Tencent and Sony.
“This acquisition will accelerate the growth of Microsoft’s gaming business across mobile, PC, console and cloud, and will provide basic items for the metaverse”, clarifies Microsoft itself after the purchase.
Regarding the changes in the organization chart of Activision Blizzard, Bobby Kotick will remain CEO of the company, although Phil Spencer will replace him in the position when the purchase is finalized. Are nearly 10,000 Activision Blizzard employees those who will become part of Microsoft.
