More than once, viewers have negatively commented on the decision to play elves by black people etc. in the series. Hissrich noticed that, as a woman and fantasy lover, for a long time she could not find characters in pop culture that she could identify with, because such stories were told for white men for a long time. They argued that many actors and admirers may feel downright humiliated by posting online recordings explaining to “bigots” why the cast is multicultural, although “not all are satisfied with it” because she graciously thought it was important.
