The video currently has 7.7 billion views on YouTube, making it the second most viewed in history.
Puerto Rican artist Luis Fonsi held this Thursday fifth anniversary from the launch of the theme Slowly, whose music video became the most viewed in YouTube history because it “managed to cross language barriers.”
“Today marks 5 years since we launched #Despacito, a theme that managed to cross language barriers and that gave me the opportunity to celebrate my culture and my flag in front of the whole world,” Fonsi said on Twitter.
In the message, the artist included a photo with the Puerto Rican reggaeton player Daddy Yankee, who put his urban touch on the famous song.

Slowly It was written by Fonsi and Panamanian Erika Ender. At one point, it remained at the top of the list Billboard Hot 100 for 49 consecutive weeks, and ranked first in at least 89 countries.
The video was directed by Carlos Pérez, also from Puerto Rico, from the company Elastic People, and shot in the colorful landscape of the San Juan neighborhood of La Perla and in the iconic bar La Factoría, in the street San Sebastián del Old San Juan.
Slowly, at its highest point, had 25 million views in a single day on YouTube, where it was the first video in the history of the platform to exceed the 3,000 million, and then the 4,000, 5,000 and 6 billion views.
The video is currently located, with 7.7 billion views, as the second most viewed in history, behind the children’s song Baby Shark, which has 9.8 billion views.
The music of Baby Shark, recorded by Korean-American singer Hope Segoine and produced by South Korean educational company Pinkfong, was originally posted on YouTube on June 17, 2016.
The success of the video Slowly, however, suffered a loss when in April 2018 it temporarily disappeared from the Vevo platform on YouTube due to the work of hackers.
The video stopped being seen on Vevo and in its place a frame from the Spanish television series appeared The Money Heist, in which its protagonists point guns at the camera.
