The new author presents a renewed edition of his novel ‘The life you gave me’ and his collection of poems ‘Nudos’.
There are those who dismiss the bond between a human and his pet as exaggerated; But once this kind of love is experienced, those prospects fall like dominoes, and what happens next is just a rising tide of loyalty, companionship, and inordinate affection. This idea is shared Felix Villacís, new author, who presents his third edition of The life you gave me, a novel inspired by his pet Lucas, which portrays the last day of a man with his dog.
It is a novel narrated in the first person and with time jumps, which describes the way in which Ricardo and Lucas, the protagonists of the story, met. On the last day together with his four-legged friend, Ricardo remembers how he went from being a man who feared animals – due to an accident in the past – to a man who ended up loving them, after being saved by a pregnant dog who risks his own life to protect him. This fact motivates him to adopt the only horse that survives from the litter, and since then a love has been woven that changes his life forever.
“It is a novel that addresses animal abuse, abandonment, the bond that can be formed between a human and his pet (…). It is a novel that allows people to know what they are feeling for their pet”Says Villacís.
He says that the novel was born as an escape by channeling the “courage” he felt when he saw one of his relatives treating Lucas badly on one occasion, the pet that originally belonged to his grandmother and that, after his death, became of the Villlacís Peña family. “I set myself a challenge, I said: ‘I’m going to write a novel that allows me to pass on the love that I can have for my dog.’ And then I set myself the challenge of writing it in ten days “, bill.
“That same year 2018, I started working in a bookstore and I was encouraged to publish it. And only when it is published do I realize this number of readers who might be interested in the work “continues the 21-year-old author.
“It was a novel that was an exercise in writing; it was a very personal novel, because I think everyone should write about what they love“, Add.
Villacís defends the theory that love for a pet shows how empathetic and noble a person can be. “Man can be happy to the extent that he feels loved, that is why life with a dog will always be wonderful”, mentions the young writer, replicating the epigraph of his book.
Felix’s ‘Knots’

Sadness, despair, depression, silences and family come together in his new edition of The words that formed a lump in my throat. At the by The life you gave me Félix Villacís presents this 2021 edition of his collection of poems under the name of Knots.
He mentions that this edition is published with a more elaborate aesthetic than that of 2019, and with a deeper exploration in the language and in his voice as a writer. In fact, it includes new poems.
Writing this work was a kind of therapy for the Villacís of three years ago; And now it’s an honest reunion “Writing is sowing a memory. We can return to that garden every time and when, and find fruits that can be bitter, or they can be fruits that we do not want to come out of the ground “, expresses the Guayaquil.
He describes his work as the notebook of a sad boy. “In writing I did find a way to banish certain things, and leave them in a place where I tried not to harm me (…). For me it is a book in which I try to do myself justice, to do justice to little Felix from many years ago, who was a silent Felix. So, writing allowed me to be “, Add.

Its title responds precisely to that sensation that is felt in the throat when faced with melancholy or pain. “They all have knots, some stronger, some terrible with spikes … I don’t know if everyone will untie their knots at some point”, dice.
His love for writing was born since he got closer to reading. He says that he always wanted to write a story like the ones he liked to read, but with child protagonists. “For me writing is facing this reality, which seems unfair to me, which seems immeasurable, which seems irreversible and which seems to me that the consequences are terrible”, says the student of Literature at the University of Arts and Communication at UNIR.
