Nationwide casting for a series for Netflix. People with Roma roots are wanted

The series will tell the fictional story of a teenage Romka brought up in a traditional family whose dream is a musical career. The creators are currently looking for people willing to participate in production: we are talking about episodic as well as primary or secondary roles. They emphasize that acting experience is not a necessary requirement, but musical skills will be appreciated. Auditions will be held in Warsaw, Katowice and Gdańsk.

The director and originator of the series is Anna Maliszewska, who has been associated with music television for many years, she was among others overseeing the launch of MTV in Poland. She has produced many credits from this channel, and has been one of the leading music video makers for years. He writes scripts for them, directs and supervises their sets. She collaborated, among others with artists and bands such as Kayah, Piasek, Reni Jusis and Myslovitz. She has won many awards and nominations in her career, incl. Fryderyk in the Best Music Video category for the video for the song “Sutra” for Sistars (2004) or the Grand Prix at the Yach Film Festival for the music video by Reni Jusis “Last Raz”. He also makes documentaries. About his new project, he says:

I want to make a series that shines with multicultural wealth. To tell a story about freedom, belonging and the tradition that is part of every human being. I am inspired by the world of the Roma – fascinating, beautiful and sometimes dangerous. I want to look at it from the inside, without stereotypes.

The producer on behalf of Watchout Studio is Justyna Pawlak. She, in turn, emphasizes – “We want the widest possible participation in the Roma series. We hope that the nationwide casting will allow us to reach as many people as possible potentially interested in a role in the series. We are looking not only for episodic actors, but also for the leading and supporting roles” .

The auditions will be held on January 15 in Warsaw (Chamber Studio; 10.00-18.00), Katowice (Youth Palace, 11.00-18.00) and on January 16 in Gdańsk (Dom Scout; 10.00-17.00). They are looking mainly for young women aged 17 to 25 who know Polish, Romani and English. Candidates should have musical abilities.

In addition, especially young men aged 17 to 25 should apply. Here, the basic requirement is knowledge of Polish and Romani. They are also looking for girls aged 5 to 10 who know English well.

The creators emphasize that prior acting experience is not necessary to participate in the auditions. It should be remembered that the meetings will take place under the applicable sanitary regime, and minors must appear at the casting with their parents or legal guardian. There are no specific tasks during the interrogations, it will only be a meeting and a conversation in front of the camera. Casting materials will not be published anywhere.
