The production is inspired by the true story of Nikodem Skotarczak, known as “Nikoś” – a Polish gangster from the second half of the 20th century. The main role in the film was played by Tomaszłosok, winner of the Polish Film Festival in Gdynia for his role in “How I became a gangster”, Kawulski’s previous film.

“How to love a gangster” premiered on January 5 on Netflix. Edyta Skotarczak, Nikosia’s last wife, posted a statement on social media in which she writes that neither the producer nor the director consulted her about the film. “They did not obtain any permission to make a film in any interpretation and vision, and in such an extremely negative form, violating not only the feelings of the deceased’s relatives, but also the norms of social life, and above all the right to privacy, human dignity, honor, memory of the deceased person. “- writes the widow. She also referred to the cooperation of Skotarczak’s children from previous relationships with filmmakers:

On the other hand, the children from my husband Nikodem’s previous relationships who took part in the film – by accepting and agreeing to this form and content of the film, unfortunately showed their intellectual and moral level and a kind of emotional attitude towards their father.

Although the script by Kawulski and Krzysztof Gureczny is only inspired by real life, Skotarczak claims that the filmmakers wanted to show a specific vision of her husband by “mixing” facts and fiction. Writes:

In my opinion, as well as in the opinion of people who know Nikodem and me – this project is one great blasphemy and it is impossible not to get the impression that it aims to show his character in a negative, humiliating, diminishing and partly false light.

Such a confusion, a bit of truth with any artistic vision of the director, creates the appearance of a “new” reality, which in the public perception is usually perceived as a true story, because virtually no one reads that it is a literary fiction inspired by my husband’s life. legal.

In “How to love a gangster”, apart from Wlochok, the cast includes, among others, Antoni Królikowski, Agnieszka Grochowska, Krystyna Janda, Sebastian Fabijański, Magdalena Lamparska, Julia Wieniawa, Eryk Lubos, Dawid Ogrodnik, Janusz Chabior and Edyta Herbuś. The official description reads: “The story of Nikos – a boy with an unbridled appetite for success, who specializes in the illegal import of cars to Poland. Enormous money, building a car empire, a spectacular break from prison. His life is a constant ride with no hands, which shows how much you have to sacrifice to be able to remain yourself. “

On January 10, the movie tops Netflix’s top 10 list. Kawulski’s previous film, “How I Became a Gangster”, is in sixth place.

“How I Became a Gangster. A True Story” is a story from 2019 about the most dangerous gangster in Poland (played by Marcin Kowalczyk), who at all costs strives to gain power and obtain an impressive financial status. On the one hand, his world revolves around interests and violence, and on the other hand, what matters to him is a friend and a beloved woman. Tomaszłosok played the role of Walden – a friend of the main character in this film.
