Supercines opens a new season of Sala de Arte, with works of opera and ballet from the Royal Opera House in London

From this January 6, the works will be presented in five complexes of the chain of cinemas in Guayaquil and Quito.

The Nutcracker, Tosca, Romeo & Julieta, Rigoletto, La Traviata Y Swan Lake There are six of the productions that will be screened from January 6 in the Supercines complexes and that will be part of the programming of the chain’s Sala de Arte.

The opera and ballet works will be complemented with film festivals and other types of content such as concerts, at the Supercines Dorado, Ceibos, Entre Ríos, 6 de Diciembre and San Luis complexes.

The Nutcracker (from January 6 to 16)

A family favorite at Christmas, it is one of the most endearing shows to discover the allure of ballet. The story of Clara, a girl who lives a magical adventure on Christmas Eve, is accompanied by happy music … and dancing sweets! Koen Kessels conducts the Royal Opera House Orchestra.

It will be available at the following times: 6:00 p.m. and 8:10 p.m. (El Dorado), 7:00 p.m. (Entre Ríos), 6:15 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. (Los Ceibos), 6:15 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. (December 6 ) and 18:30 (San Luis).

Tosca: (from January 27 to February 6)

Sung in Italian with Spanish subtitles, the Royal Opera House Choir and Orchestra and with music by Giacomo Puccini, the production presents the malevolence of Baron Scarpia, Chief of Police, is introduced with fatal consequences in the romantic world of the idealistic painter Cavaradossi and his sensual lover Tosca.

Elena Stikina, Bryan Hymel and Alexey Markov bring to life the characters of one of the most beloved works in the Royal Opera repertoire. From the demonic chords at the beginning to the violent and unexpected twist at the end, the tension does not cease for an instant. A shocking confrontation between love and evil in this intense production by Jonathan Kent.

Romeo & Juliet: (from February 24 to March 6)

This version created by the director of the Royal Ballet, Kenneth MacMillan, and released in 1965, has become a mainstay of the modern ballet repertoire. In this special Valentine’s Day screening, hapless lovers try to fight their way between the action and the color of Renaissance Verona, where a busy market quickly becomes the scene of a sword fight, and a family rivalry ends in tragedy for the Montagues and the Capulets.

Marcelino Sambé (Romeo) and Anna-Rose O’Sullivan (Juliet) are the protagonists of the play.

Rigoletto (from April 14 to 24)

The director of the Royal Opera, Oliver Mears, transports us to a ruthless world of decaying luxury, corruption and social decline. In his first job for his own company, Mears brings Verdi’s masterpiece to the modern world. Verdi’s moving Rigoletto, under the musical direction of Sir Antonio Pappano, is the scene of a confrontation between innocence and power, between beauty and ugliness. This special anniversary screening of Verdi’s Rigoletto marks 171 years since its premiere in 1851.

The cast is made up of Carlos Álvarez (Rigoletto), Liparit Avetisyan (the Duke of Mantua), Lisette Oropesa (Gilda), Brindley Sherratt (Sparafucile), Ramona Zaharia (Maddalena), Eric Greene (Count Monterone), Kseniia Nikolaieva (Giovanna) , Dominic Sedgwick (Marullo), Egor Zhuravskii (Borsa) and Blaise Malaba (Count Ceprano).

The Traviata (from May 26 to June 5)

Pretty Yende (Violetta), Stephen Costello (Alfredo Germont), Dimitri Platanias (Giorgio Germont), Kseniia Nikolaieva (Annina), David Shipley (Doctor Grenvil), Angela Simkin (Flora Bervoix), Germán E. Alcántara (Baron Douphol) , Andrés Presno (Gastone de Letorières), Jeremy White (the Marquis d’Obigny) are part of the cast of La Traviata.

The production shows Paris in the 19th century, a city of contrasts: sophistication and frivolity, love and lust, life and death. Courtesan Violetta sings some of Verdi’s most famous arias, including the joyous Always free, during his intense and passionate encounters with Alfredo and Germont. Richard Eyre’s play for the Royal Opera, which recently celebrated its 25th. anniversary on stage.

Swan Lake (from June 16 to 26)

This classic fairy tale represents the battle between good and evil and love’s quest to win. The magic of lakes, forests and palaces comes to life with the dazzling designs of John Macfarlane and the sublime music of Tchaikovski. The magnificent production of Swan Lake of the Royal Ballet returns to the stage of the Royal Opera House after the interruption of its return in 2020, when the theaters closed due to the pandemic.

The immense love of classicism and the innate musicality of the late choreographer Liam Scarlett shines through throughout the production of this classic from the Royal Ballet repertoire with Lauren Cuthbertson (Odette / Odile) and William Bracewell (Prince Siegfried). (I)
