Hyperion is an eternal green section that is growing in the Redwood National Park in northern California. What distinguishes it from other, equally majestic trees of this species is the fact that it is the highest of them all. Breaking the ban is associated with a gigantic financial penalty.

An interesting fact is that although it is estimated that Hyperion is from 700 to 800 years old, it has been discovered relatively recently. In 2006, naturalists, Chris Atkins and Michael Taylor came across him. All this time it grew almost under the breath of all the park visitorsbut before, no one was aware of the fact that he was the highest in the world.

Hyperion measures a record 115.92 meters high (about 40 floors) and it is estimated that it contains as much as 530 m3 of wood. For comparison and illustration of how a huge tree is: the statue of freedom is 93 meters, and Big Ben 96 meters. To protect him from mass tourism, which would certainly not be indifferent to him, for a long time his location was shrouded in mystery, but today you can find accurate coordinates on the network.

Can you admire Hyperion up close? Don’t even try

In connection with this, the park authorities decided to prevent tourists from visiting the highest tree in the world. People who will not respect the prohibitions will be severe. Its highest dimension is 5,000 dollars, or about 19.5 thousand zlotys, or even deprivation of liberty for six months. The thetravel.com portal, however, reports that intruders usually end with instruction and a fine of $ 150 (less than 580 PLN).
