The popularity of the Rammstein team has not served for over three decades. Despite this, even his most loyal fans did not know that he had a completely different name. Why did the musicians decide to change it? History is much more folded than it could seem.

This is the legendary German metal team established in 1994, whose leader is from the beginning. His discography consists of as many as 8 studio albums sold in a circulation of over 20 million copies, as well as several dozen timeless hits. Few know, however, that Initially, the musicians performed under a completely different name than the one with which they have been associated for years.

He started operating as Tempelprayers, but this name was changed to Rammstein-Flugschau some time later. It was a reference to 1988. It occurred in the German town of Ramstein during a show organized in an American military base. This caused considerable controversy among listeners and in the environment, because 70 people were killed in the disaster and over 1000 were injured.

The musicians decided to change only a few months later when they won the Amateur bands competition in Berlin. As part of the award, they could enter a professional recording studio and finally create their own. Their popularity dynamically gained strength, and with it more and more negative comments related to the name appeared. Then they decided to limit themselves to its first part to avoid associations related to the tragedy.

Many years later, Paul Landers in an interview with the magazine “Metal Hammer” revealed that the choice of the team name, contrary to appearances, was not intended to cause controversy. Apparently, the musicians did not even think that this could cause any negative associations, and thus outrage of the recipients. Especially because of the double “M”, which, as it turns out, was not a deliberate procedure, but … a mistake in the record.

In the same interview, the musician revealed that when members of the squad decided to change the name, they considered several other definitely shorter options. One of them were the words “Milch”, “Erde” and “Mutter”, which means: milk, earth and mother. Ultimately, however Rammstein seemed the most characteristic and vibrant to them, which made them put on this idea.
