Time passes inexorably, and with it the possibility of using a free research package under the Prophylaxis 40 Plus program. Although it was originally to end in 2024, its date was extended to April 30, 2025. This is the last chance to check your health without incurring costs. Hundreds of laboratories all over Poland still accept patients, but after this date, you will have to pay even a few hundred zlotys for the same research privately. The program will not be extended again, and its place will be taken by a new initiative.
What is the NFZ 40 Plus program? It is worth using it while it still lasts
Health is our greatest capital, but statistics do not lie – Poles are studying too rarely. That is why in 2021 the Ministry of Health launched a 40 plus prevention program. It enables people over 40 to perform the most important diagnostic tests completely free. According to NFZ data, by December 2024, 4,089,488 people realized the research, including 2,421 136 women and 1 668 352 men.
The program focuses on the early detection of civilization diseases, such as:
- Diabetes – Zybka Diagnosis of elevated blood sugar levels avoid serious complications.
- Heart disease and hypertension – Appropriate tests can demonstrate an increased risk of heart attack or atherosclerosis.
- Liver and kidney problems – Head tests and creatinine designation help detect inflammation and organs.
- Tumors – The men’s package includes a dog examination, enabling early diagnosis of prostate cancer, and in the general package a latent blood test in feces, which helps detect colorectal cancer.
Packages include not only laboratory tests, but also pressure measurement, body weight analysis and BMI calculation. Although individual studies are not expensive, their total cost can significantly charge the budget. According to Gazetaprawna.pl, in commercial facilities, the prices of examples of research that can be performed free of charge as part of the package are:
- PLN 15-25 – peripheral blood couple with interest and platelets,
- 20-40 PLN – total cholesterol or lipid profile,
- 10-20 PLN – blood creatinine level,
- 10-20 PLN – general urine examination,
- PLN 20-40 – latent blood in the feces using the immunochemical method,
- 50-70 PLN – dog examination.
Do you need a referral from a doctor for 40 plus? How to use the package?
It’s simple. Anyone who is over 40 can report to research, provided that he complees a short health survey. This can be done in two ways:
- online – via the patient’s online account (IKP) or the Mojeikp application,
- stationary – in the clinics of primary healthcare participating in the program.
When we do this, the system automatically issues e-mails that are found in IKP or application. You don’t have to go to the doctor or stand in the queue, just go to the laboratory with an identity document.
Importantly, if 12 months have passed since the previous study, the new referral will be issued automatically, without having to complete the survey again. It is worth using free tests, because prevention is not only more effective, but also cheaper than treatment. As Gazetaprawna.pl added, after April 30, you will have to pay almost PLN 300 for the same research in private facilities, depending on their scope and place of implementation.
