“Real scourge” of ticks in Poland. He showed the recording from the walk. How to protect against them?

The activity and presence of ticks depends on the temperature and humidity of the environment. Until recently, the “tick season” lasted from March to the day. Now, however, they begin to appear even in February, and in March a rash is observed once typical for summer. What best protects against ticks?

As the National Institute of Public Health explains, One of the causes of tick plague is climate change. The warm autumn and winter make their range greater, and remain active longer. Laboratory tests have shown, adult individuals and nymphs will not survive 30 days at a temperature of -10 degrees. Adult individuals to “wake up” 5 degrees Celsius, nymphs 8 degrees.

This species occurs throughout the country, although most often on the outskirts of forests, especially marsh, meadows and near rivers and lakes. Meadow ticks mainly attack animals, most often wild mammals, much less often people. However, they are a serious threat to our pets. They live in the grass, weeds, bushes, and their highest activity falls on morning and evening hours. He is the main carrier of the protozoan causing babesiosis, a particularly dangerous disease for dogs.

This does not mean, however, that they are harmless to man. Ticks can be carriers of numerous viruses, bacteria and protozoa. – The occurrence of several pathogens in the body of one tick may result in the fact that the feeding of even a single arachnid will lead to the development of mixed infections in humans and animals – explained in the conversation prof. Ɓukasz Adaszek from UP in Lublin.
