Tourist insurance is a voluntary policy that protects travelers in Poland and abroad. It covers primarily Treatment costs and support in the event of unfortunate events. They can be purchased:

  • online on the insurer’s website or by phone,
  • in a travel agency, U
  • insurance agent,
  • at the bank.

It’s best to buy them a few days before leaving, because the policy usually starts to work from the next day after purchase. So it’s better not to postpone the decision at the last minute. As we read at rf.gov.pl, the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) only guarantees basic health care in EU/EFTA countries. Therefore, it does not cover the costs of medical transport, mountain rescue or treatment in private facilities. This is why The financial spokesman recommends to have additional travel insurance. Usually, the insurer covers the costs of treatment until the health condition allows you to return to the country. However, it is worth checking the exact terms of the contract to avoid unpleasant surprises.
