He took 14th place in the semi -final in 2021. One performance ended his Eurovision adventure in the competition in which Europe shows itself from an extremely colorful and open page. The former TVP presenter and the vocalist mentioned in an interview with the journalist he heard before leaving for Rotterdam.
TVP wanted to prohibit Rafał Brzozowski talks with LGBT people
A trip to Eurovision for every representative means dozens of interviews and – more and more important every year – activities in social media. In posts, photos and recordings, participants convince you of peaceful and joyful competition, ensure great contacts with other performers and take part in the organizer’s games. All this also had to concern Rafał Brzozowski, who went to represent Poland in the competition in 2021.
Unfortunately for TVP, Eurovision is a competition in which not only national teams are celebrated, but also general openness to the LGBT community. As Brzozowski recalls years later, it was a great problem for Polish Television:
I fully accept the entire LGBT community, because I have a lot of buddies who are from this environment and I like them very much. I even remember the situation when I was asked about it at Eurovision, and I answered directly on PR-Z on TVP. I say: listen, did you send me to the LGBT festival and forbid me to talk to them? This is not nice. How should I not talk to them? After all, they are cool, curious people, let me talk to them – he said.
The TVP presenter mentioned that the problems were also with the panel organized by the Netherlands with the blogger Nikkie Tutorials. A few years ago, Nikkie stated that he belonged to the community of transgender people. TVP wanted to convince Brzozowski not to take part in this element of the event.
Even the agreement that I went to Nikkie tutorials, it was: okay, okay, do. Finally I fell, I say: people, it can’t be like that! And this is not about the president, but it comes to the whole PR, the structure that was more there – explained Brzozowski.
Polish Television in 2021 was in the middle of the war with LGBT communities. The competition in the Netherlands was difficult because the country is widely recognized as one of the most tolerant and open to diversity throughout Europe – in 2023 the Eurobarometer survey indicated that 94 percent. Dutch believes that marriages of the same sex people should be possible throughout Europe. The subject of LGBT during Eurovision in this country was unacceptable – unlike the competition In 2019, when in TVP retransmission it was decided to cut a kiss of two men.
