Although “little black” has a lot of opponents, its positive impact on health may surprise many. Studies have shown that properly brewed coffee can even reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes. But beware – not everything we add to it works in favor. What is better to avoid so as not to weaken its beneficial properties? We suggest.
Is drinking coffee healthy? The research dispelled all doubts
A team of researchers from Harvard Th Chan School of Public Health, under the leadership of prof. Frank Hu analyzed data from three large long -term studies. They covered as many as 290,000 people, of whom 13,000 suffered from type 2 diabetes. The analysis includes not only eating habits, but also a lifestyle, a level of physical activity, sleep length or the amount of time spent in a sitting position.
The results, published in the “American Journal of Clinical Nutrition” show that daily drinking of coffee can reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes by up to 10 %, regardless of whether it contains caffeine. This means that the beneficial effect of the drink results not only from this relationship. Other ingredients contained in grains, such as polyphenols and antioxidants, which help regulate metabolism and reduce inflammation are also important. However, we must remember that every addition to the drink changes its properties.
What coffee is the best for health? Avoid these add -ons
The best protective effect against type 2 diabetes gives black or with a little milk – simple, classic and without unnecessary additives. However, one teaspoon of sugar is enough for this effect to reduce by half. What about sweeteners? They are less problematic, but they also weaken the positive effect of coffee. If the infusion is to support health, it is worth staying away from all taste enhancers. Large amounts of sugar in a cup can promote insulin resistance, and sweet syrups and greasy cream are a simple way to extra calorie and disturbed sugar management. In short: the fewer additions, the more benefits. The real magic of coffee lies in its natural taste, not in what we try to mask it.
