Slown that wounds. These 10 phrases use people without empathy. Your emotions have your nose

Some people seem incapable of cooking the emotions of others. They use specific phrases that underestimate the feelings of the interlocutor or improperly annoy them. How to recognize a person without empathy? Here are some phrases that can signal the lack of emotional involvement.

Empathy is the ability to understand and comply with other people’s emotions. Thanks to it, we build deep relationships, show support and create an atmosphere of understanding. However, not everyone can empathize with other people’s emotions. There are those who underestimate, diminish and annul the experiences of others. Interestingly, you can recognize them by a specific way of speaking. Scientists decided to examine how people without empathy communicate with the environment. Their conclusions leave no doubt.

How to recognize a person without empathy? Researchers came to interesting conclusions

American scientists Arielle Baskin-Sommers, Elizabeth Krusemark and Elsa Ronningstam decided to check how people with a narcissistic personality disorder approach the emotions of others. The results of their research, published in Personal Disorders, have shown that although people from NPD can recognize the emotions of the interlocutors (so -called cognitive empathy), they do not engage in them emotionally. This means that they can understand what you feel, but they don’t necessarily care. To better understand this mechanism, researchers conducted behavioral tests and brain tests to check the reactions to emotional stimuli.

It turned out that people with low empathy often distance themselves from the feelings of others and do it subtly. One of the most important signals is the way they say. They use phrases that underestimate the emotions of the interlocutors, annul their experiences or even blame them for their emotions. This may be a passionate sentence, which makes you start to wonder if you really have the right to feel like that. That is why it is worth paying attention to words, because they can reveal that you are talking to someone who cannot (or does not want) to show.

How does a person without empathy behave? In conversations, he often uses these phrases

The lack of empathy is not always manifested by an open hostility or a mocking attitude. Sometimes he hides in words that at first glance seem neutral. If you often hear such phrases, you can deal with someone who does not take into account your feelings. What does a person with low empathy want to achieve with specific phrases?

  • “It wasn’t that bad”. It diminishes your experience because it makes you understand that you are exaggerating and you have no right to feel like you feel.
  • “You have to accept it”. It sounds like a advice, but it really suggests that your feelings are irrelevant and instead of dealing with them, you should simply ignore them.
  • “The past is the past”. An attempt to impose the narrative that what was what was, it doesn’t matter, even if it is still important to you and affects your life.
  • “Don’t be so oversensitive.” He undermines your emotions and makes you start to wonder if you really have the right to feel them. Often used to avoid responsibility for your own words or inappropriate behavior.
  • “Come on, don’t talk about it”. Sure, the interlocutor does not want to get emotionally involved in the topic that is important to you. It can cause a sense of rejection.
  • “Others are worse.” It compares your problems to someone else’s. In this way, he suggests that you should not worry about them, because someone else suffers more. As a result, you can feel that your feelings are irrelevant.
  • “I also survived it and I don’t make it a big hello“An attempt to convince you that your feelings are exaggerated, because someone else has gone through the same, but he did it better.
  • “You’re just looking for attention”. It forces you to feel guilty for looking for support. It can make you stop sharing your feelings for fear of evaluation.
  • “You should already forget about it”. Instead of support, you get emphasis on a quick “closing of the case”, although emotions do not work on demand.
  • “You’re dramatizing again”. The sentence in which the interlocutor stops pretending to be empathy and simply makes you understand that your emotions are uncomfortable for him.

These phrases are not always spoken consciously, but their frequent use may indicate low or zero empathy. If someone regularly uses them in a conversation with you, it is worth considering whether you are dealing with a person who cannot (or does not want) to see your emotions. Thanks to this, her opinion will not have so much influence on his perception.
