When planning a garden, we dream of beautiful and unique room. Unfortunately, some species, although visually attractive, can be dangerous to the environment, and even for ourselves. Such an example is the glandular Christmas, which is prohibited in Poland. His planting is threatened by high fines, and even a prison in extreme cases. Why is this tree so dangerous and what if it is already growing in our garden?
What does the glandular synagogue look like? His cultivation in the garden is strictly forbidden
The glandular idol, also known as the Ajlant, is a tall tree that can reach up to 30 meters high. It has a characteristic, smooth bark with light, longitudinal stripes. Its leaves are very long (they reach up to 60 cm) and are composed of many narrow, ovoid leaves. Christmas develop in large, loose inflorescences and unfortunately, they secrete a rather unpleasant smell. However, this is not the biggest problem that can happen to us while cultivating it in the garden.
What is most surprising in this tree is the fact that it is forbidden in Poland. Pursuant to the Regulation of the Minister of the Environment in 2011, the glandular Christmas is considered an invasive species that threatens our native nature. Its introduction to the ecosystem or movement in it is prohibited, and since 2012 its import, possession, breeding, reproduction and sale require a special permit. There are severe penalties for non -compliance with these provisions – arrest or fine, which reaches up to several thousand zlotys. So, if you have a glandular Christmas on your, it’s better to start working as soon as possible and get rid of the troublesome “tenant”.
Is the Christmas invasive? Very. Why you need to get rid of it quickly from the garden
This destructive tree threatens both the environment and the infrastructure located around it. Its invasiveness results from several key features, including rapid growth and a strong root system that destroy pipes and buildings, extraordinary strength to difficult conditions or an intimidating pace of reproduction by seeds and roots. Unfortunately, the fight against the Christmas is a difficult task. Cutting the trunk is not enough, because the tree will grow quickly. Burning also does not bring results. Therefore, the most effective method is to combine several techniques.
- Manual removal. Young seedlings, below 60 cm high, can be pulled out and the surface around them can be pushed to prevent re -growth.
- Cutting and herbicide. Higher shoots should be cut and then brush them with herbicide. You can also inject the agent to the tree trunk.
- Regular mowing. If the idol grows back from shoots, regular mowing (even every month) can weaken the plant and stop its growth.
Remember that the fight against Christmas is a long -term process and requiring patience. If you have a large tree on your property, it is best to consult a specialist who will help develop a strategy of its removal.
