“I don’t know who it is, but it’s not Shrek”, “Look how my child massacred …”, “And what is it for who is who?” – Yes, these are the voices of disappointment at the sight of ten seconds of the announcement of the fifth part of the “Shrek” animation. Dreamworks is working on the next installment. We will see the effect at the end of the year, but in the meantime a small snippet was presented, showing an aesthetic change in animation. And it started.
“Shrek 5” underwent a cosmetic upgrade
The last time on the large screens of “Shrek” we could watch up to 15 years ago. Since then, everything has changed – we too. Many of you have children today, you completed (or not) studies, you went through Pandemia, you go through the war. “Shrek 4” (if you saw him in the cinema) is an ancient past and a memory of much better times than today. What’s more, Earlier films have not changed the appearance of the heroes since 2001 – At this point it is almost a quarter of a century.
In this perspective, the modernization of graphics, cosmetic changes here and there can be and have been picked up as an attack on holiness. At the same time, Dreamworks decided to somewhat more love and smooth out old heroes who have long been behind the adventures. Shrek has changed a thick nose, Fiona has shiny hair, as if they were looked after by a Hollywood hairdresser staff, Even the donkey is a bit more downy than it was. Changes hit the eyes especially when you see similar frames from older films and a new snippet:
For many, it is also a betrayal of Shrek’s ideals, who, with his appearance and life philosophy, ridiculed the sweet and large -eyed Disney princess. The og in earlier films boldly took jokes from contemporary culture to the workshop, incorporated riders from social media, even predicted Tinder. It’s just that it was already visible that too much was unhealthy. The first two films of the series are widely considered perfect. The third from 2007 was already openly criticized, the fourth was watched in the United States less willingly than the first. For some reason, it was considered that it is worth making a new attempt to show “Shrek” to younger generations. It was also adapted to the aesthetic requirements of the modern audience, which would not necessarily be favorably at the angular and coarse Shrek from the first installments.
Effect? His spirit was killed. It is like “only” animation, but its appearance was 20 and 15 years ago an additional meaning. He was a mockery of Disney, a story that you don’t have to be beautiful and packed so that you are liked – you can find a group of your freaks who will accept you. And no, you don’t have to change for them, as Shrek did. What’s worse, it seems that the fifth film about Shrek, after the disaster, which turned out to be the fifth “Ice Age” from 2016, is a production that no one is waiting for at all. It will be difficult to attract new young viewers to theaters, since the main heroine seems to be the teenage daughter of Shrek and Fiona, adults who were the pleasure of watching the big eyes on the big screen of the first “Shrek” at the time. Who is this product created for? Looking at the reactions to the announcement – rather not for the viewers themselves, but for an easy leap to the studio. And there is no reason to expect that “Shrek 5” will mock in this respect, as they would do it years ago.
It’s time to get ready for a film -like productwho is already screaming: “See, Pinocchio will again make a trick with a nose! laugh and go to buy a cluster of funny scenes we generated.”
