Robert Flack was one of the most beautiful American voices of the 70s and 80s. Jazz, R&B, Pop and Soul sang. She collaborated with many most important artists of that time, including with Donny Hathaway. In Europe, however, she is known from one song. “Killing Me Softly with His Song” from 1973 turned out to be her biggest hit. Flack took two Grammy statuettes for the song: for recording and for a female performance of pop music.

In recent years, the singer has faced health problems. In 2022, it was reported that he had deteriorating memory problems. She also suffered from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, which prevented her from practicing her profession. However, she sang as long as she was able – the last recordings come from 2012. Roberta Flack spokeswoman gave American media that the star had died surrounded by her family in her home.

In the United States, Robert Flack was known not only for music, but also from activism. She was the voice of “Black Music”, she raised social topics in her songs. She sang about LGBT people, with economic inequalities, and civic rights. In 2020, in an interview with Aarp, she regretted that when she created her songs, her work was not taken to heart:

It is sad that so many songs recorded by me 50 years ago about civic rights, equality, poverty, hunger and suffering are still current in 2020! she said.

Robert Flack died on February 24.
