Euskaraz Iraqurri: Felix Beristain Ondarroar Margolaria Zendu da
The Windrés painter Felix Beristain has died at age 87, according to his family he informed EITB this Tuesday. Beristain leaves an extensive work of customary portraits, including scenes of marine life, but also worked postcubism and abstraction. He created, for example, the mural of the Brotherhood of Ondarroa.
Beristain received the councils of Valentín de Zubiaurre in its beginnings, and made his first exposure at age 17, in Eibar. Then, I take his work to Bilbao, Dax, Pau, Toulouse, Germany, Bordeaux, USA and many other places.
His expressive works for their beginnings a dark costumbrismo, and continued painting all his life, in balance between figurativism and, to a lesser extent, abstraction. His paintings were windows towards sea scenes, landscapes of Morocco, Portugal or Tunisia and Carnival environments, among other reasons.
Born in Ondarroa, he lived for three decades in Sarria, in the slopes of Gorbea, and continued painting until the last moment.
Last year, Eloy González Gavilán and José Emilio Gómez Busto presented the documentary Felix Beristain Amallobieta, the last Basque costumbrista.
