Where to throw out old receipts? Certainly not for a container that most of us choose

According to research carried out for the ESG Institute for the needs of the 3rd ESG Congress – Europe already 96 percent. Polish women and Poles declared that he sorted garbage. However, 58 percent the respondents throw the receipt into a paper container. And this is not the right choice. Due to the properties of this paper, a different container will be the correct solution. We suggest what to remember to avoid segregation errors in the future.

Many people throw away old receipts there. It’s a mistake

Although the receipt looks like ordinary paper, it is not really. It was made for thermal paper, which is why it is not suitable for recycling. The plants that process waste paper do not obtain raw material from them. We should not throw receipts into standard paper containers. Experts advise to place this type of garbage in mixed waste baskets. It is worth adding that the same principle applies to prints from ATM, tickets, as well as confirmation of payment from thermal paper.

What about blue receipts?

In recent years, some stores have introduced blue receipts. They were made of recycling and have a FSC certificate. For this reason, they are considered more environmentally friendly. However, what is important, this type of receipt should also be placed in mixed waste containers. Some time ago, Kasia Wągrowska, an ecoactive and author of the blog “I limit myself”, referred to this issue on one of her Instagram films.

As she explained, although such blue receipts are a good solution, it is not recommended to throw them into paper. As with ordinary receipts, put them in mixed waste containers. – First of all, both receipts are thermal paper, regardless of whether it is from recycled or not. And secondly, receipts have too short cellulose fibers for a paper mill to be made of any other paper. A bit on the basis of toilet paper, we don’t make anything from it – Wągrowska explained.
