In Poland, the so -called “Popular music”, or pop. The younger ones are more likely to reach for hip-hop and rock music, but an informal king, who rarely show the results of the research, is disco polo. No self -respecting Polish wedding can do without “dot panties” or “you are crazy”. And although no one officially admits that Disco Polo is listening, everyone knows the next verses of popular songs and played when TVP promoted this music genre for several years.
Sebastian Karpiel-Bułecka in an interview with Wirtualna Polska referred critically to Poles’ love for disco polo:
I am in favor of educating people and that they can reach for ambitious music. People in Poland listen to disco polo, there is a demand for such teams. They can’t be taken away from them, everyone listens to the music he likes. I do what I can to change musical tastes in Poland to interest people with some more ambitious projects, but I know that there are such individuals or groups of people who fit it and will not change. Such music is needed – it works great at weddings – said the leader Zakopower.
The unquestionable popularity of disco polo has been tested many times. It is not easy – For a long time, listening to this music genre was considered embarrassingto which the respondents did not necessarily want to admit to the researchers. CBOS in 2018 conducted research, which showed that 63 percent respondents like this type of music very much (over 950 people from a representative random sample of adult Polish residents were tested). But what a study is a different result – in some (e.g. in the study on behalf of the Ministry of Culture in 2013) disco polo as a favorite type of music indicated only 9 percent. respondents, in 1996 – 28 percent, in 2023 almost 39 percent had fun at Disco Polo. young people. You can see that research showed popularity at a time when disco polo was not yet associated negatively (90s) and when TVP began to intensively promote this type of music.
