Książ comes from the 13th century and is located in Wałbrzych, more precisely in the Wałbrzych Foothills. This is one of the most popular attractions of Lower Silesia, but in January 2024 scientists made an interesting discovery. It turns out that apart from the historic building, there were also gardens in this place, which until now was not known.
The secret of the Książ Castle. The history of the gardens dates back to the 19th century
Thanks to the cooperation of the Książ Castle and the University of Life Sciences in Wrocław, we managed to partially explain the history of old terrace. – We determined that the design of the gardens in Książ in the 1870s was made by Eduard Neidedirector of the Royal Gardens of Tiergarten in Berlin. It is known not only thanks to the projects implemented for the Berlin Park in Tiergarten, but also as a garden designer at Albrechtsberg in Dresden and urban areas in Hamburg – explained Dr. Justyna Jaworek -Jakubska from the Department of Landscape Architecture of UPWR cited by UPWR.edu.pl.

Currently, only two elements have survived that there were gardens in the castle. It is a row of trees on the chestnut terrace and a park promenadewhich connects the outer way with the Lubiechowska Gate. In 1909-1923, the garden terraces were liquidated as part of the castle expansion.

Scientists ensure that this is just the beginning of activities aimed at increasing knowledge about one of the most beautiful castles in Poland. – We all realize that it will be a process that lasts for years.
